Metal Chess Set with Deluxe Wood Board and Storage - 2.5" King, Gold/Silver/Brown (985)

This metal chess set is my new favorite set! The metal pieces are nicely finished and heavy. The board is beautiful and I leave it out for everyone to enjoy.

I've seen alot of negative reviews so I needed to set it straight for me.All the pieces where there not the super heavy but not the lightest either its a nice weight for what the pieces are.the bags are smooth have with a paper and the board is nice and was in great condition only a finger chip in a top corner that got overly with a dab of a marker.Great buy for me.Only thing to know is I'm even tho the pieces are decent and the board is nice the finish on the wood is weak and will dent if a piece drops hard enough,say falls out of your hand hovering over the board a mark will be made,a piece that just falls over will be fine.Good buy for the price to me

I was nervous this would come without the proper piece sets because of the other reviews about this product but mine came fine. The pieces are nice and heavy, but they'll still fall over if you knock them accidentally (and I'm not going to dock a star because I'm clumsy), but no sudden wind could blow it over if you play in a park. I take the top off from the rest of the box to play on a nice thin board, but some of my friends like the dignity of playing on a higher, thicker piece of wood, so you have aesthetic options there.This is personal, but I don't like how the pieces are gold and silver and the squares are light brown and dark brown. I'd prefer the pieces and their corresponding squares to be at least a similar color, but regardless, I don't even remotely regret this buy. It's a nice quality for a reasonable price. Since it's typically played with two people, the friend I play chess with split the cost with me, so maybe you can use that idea to reduce the cost for yourself.

It's a good quality chess set, especially when you compare it to other options. For the price that you are paying though, I was hoping the board could be a little thicker. Its convenient that it has a decently sized storage space though because I could fit other card games inside of there. Chess pieces are nice, but the one weakness of the set is definitely the board quality. Feels just a little too thin and its a little too easy to scratch. Other then that though, its really fun, and makes for a really good gift for someone who is still using mats to play chess.

I orderee this for my partner for an Easter gift, and I am very pleased with the chess board(not like im an expert or anything). the packaging was wrapped, the chess board itself is beautiful, very classy looking. the chess pieces were all there and one set of silver and the other of a bronze color. The pieces themselves have a nice weight to them with pieces of felt underneith to keep them in place and not scratch the board, and they each come with a black velvety case for each set. Inside the box the bottom part is a green velvety that wasn't damaged nor was the box scratched at all(I saw other comments say their box had been damaged). I think this is a great gift for anyone who enjoys playing chess, or wants a nice classy looking center piece for a game room, living room, or reading room.

This set is absolutely perfect for what I wanted it for, but that said, I wanted it *specifically* for the board itself; I have a set of wooden chess pieces that are perfect for this size board, and so I am keeping the metal pieces as extras. The board itself is very nice, it sits as a lid on top of the storage box, which is also nice, and lined with green felt. In truth, I'm using the box for something else, and using the chess board on its own. All of this because at the time that I purchased it, the pricing of this set and others was such that this was the best value for a board of this size (not sure that will be true whenever you are reading this).

I read the other reviews and almost didn't purchase this. I'm not sure what happened to those who were not pleased with this product, but it's a very nice high quality set. We got all our pieces with none missing and no extras. The pieces have a good weight to them and aren't prone to tipping over. There is a varnish smell, but not overpowering and is a bit like that "new car" smell! :) It comes with two velvet bags to keep the pieces in, everything was wonderful! I'm surprised it doesn't cost more! One thing though...from the other reviews, I did choose to purchase this chess set through Amazon rather than another seller - just in case! I knew Amazon is better established to handle any returns or exchanges. Better safe than sorry! But gratefully didn't need their assistance - everything is wonderful! :)

Numerous scratches, dents, and marks mar the wooden board. Nothing that will affect ability to play the game, but for the price I'm somewhat disappointed in the lack of craftsmanship. The placement of the felt pads on the base of the board as well as the pieces are haphazard. But it seems solid enough, looks okay. The pieces have a decent weight but are not cast metal, there is a very visible seam down each piece.
