Sweet book that helped us wean without tears
The illustrations are cute and the rhythm of the story is soothing and satisfying. At first I was worried that the message is too subtle to be effective in weaning my 21-month-old -- the nursing scenes and accompanying words are not exactly blatant. But my daughter definitely got the message quickly. She loves the very last page especially, a picture of a "big girl" who doesn't need to nurse anymore. We just read the story every night before bed, and she gradually stopped asking to nurse over several weeks. Even though we're officially done weaning as of a few days ago, she still asks to read it -- I think she feels proud to be like the big girl on the last page! Overall, very helpful weaning resource. I would suggest making this a board book, though, as most toddlers (including mine) are rough with paper pages.

Sweet book points out the natural progression of weaning
I've so enjoyed sharing this book with the families at the preschool where i work. The text is repetitive enough to allow the children to really get into the rhythm of the book and start to "read" it themselves, and varying enough to hold interest throughout. The story is sweet, allowing children the view that weaning is a natural progression for all creatures, and the illustrations are beautiful-- soft, fun, and inviting. Well done, Marlene Susan!

Lovely Little Book
Very sweet book. Loved reading it with my toddler as we come to the end of breastfeeding. He asks to read the “kitten book” at nap and bedtime. It’s repetitive but that’s what makes it great for very young children. All wean someday, even them!

Cute book, but not really effective as far as explaining weaning
This book is cute and my 18 month old was reasonably amused by the pictures, although she seems to tire of the repetitive rhymes and it's not a book she requests often. Unlike other reviewers who said it helped introduce the weaning concept, this book didn't really further the "discussion" with my kiddo around weaning, which has been a bit of a struggle for her. We found the book "Loving Comfort" is more direct and relatable for her, and has been MUCH more effective as far as her understanding the content of the book itself and how it applies to her situation with weaning.

This is the best weaning book I have ever read
A Time to Wean has my attention right away with the gentle and playful illustrations, then the rhyme and rhythm of the story. This is the best weaning book I have ever read, I recommend this book to any mother who loves to cuddle their little one as they wean together. Thank you Marlene Susan for writing this book!

Great gender neutral weaning story
I really like this book. It is a bit repetitive. I really like that the kid at the end is gender neutral.

Sweet and subtle
Very sweet (and subtle) book about babies growing up and finding new things they like, and new ways to cuddle/connect with mama. There are very few well written toddler books about weaning-- glad we came across this one!
