I love these and combined them with the Downpipe First Flush ...
I wrote this in the Leaf Eater comments and it deserves to be here too.I love these and combined them with the Downpipe First Flush Water Diverter Kit system. (also on Amazon) And they work great.I'm in a 3rd world Caribbean country and have had NO city water for almost 2 years and in a major drought. We are having are second heavy rain since last FEB. and watching these simple systems collecting water off a rather dirty roof with the Leaf Eater taking out the larger debris while the flush system takes captures the finer dust and... bird stuff. Both need a little cleaning type maintenance after a hard rain, it is easy to do and I'm glad to do it. I have 3 of the 4 Leaf Eaters installed so they are easy to get to from upper porch, the other I need a ladder. The Flush system needs to be opened at the bottom, easy by hand, to clear the drain. But since we have only had 2 heavy rains, they have a lot of garbage to deal with. Since we need all the water we can get, small price to pay. 1" of rain = 2,000 gallons for us going into 2 water cisterns. I'll take all that I can.Not difficult to install. We are on the Atlantic Ocean with VERY salty air; the Leaf Eater stainless steel grid has held up very well with NO corrosion at all.We also have had to put in a well, very salty and nasty water but we have filters/UV and 3 RO systems by iSpring that deliver 1,500 a day. When you don't have ANY water, you do what you need to do. When you find good products that could help others dealing with drought and water problems, then you should talk about them.Thank you

The Best Rain Diverter Out There With One Modification
This item works very good with just one complaint: It has a very small screen (about the thickness of a highlighter) to filter the water before it leaves your pipe. This screen gets completely filled with brown scummy slime that blocks the screen up and water does not flow out the bottom. I even bought the Rain Harvesting Pty Ltd WDAC02 First Flush Water Diverter to help block larger amounts of junk coming off the roof but this did not help.I have come to the conclusion that you just need the First Flush Water Diverter in place and just remove that small screen completely. This allow water to flow freely out the small end of your pipe. Other wise this system works great! I highly recommend it after trying some of their earlier versions. (Their "Clean Rain Advanced" breaks very easily) You do need the Rain Harvesting Pty Ltd RHAD99 Leaf Eater Advanced Rain Head to make this item work though.

Doesn't fit standard US thin wall, drainage PVC pipe.
The system works just fine, however, trying to match up fittings is tough. I cheated and used thin wall PVC, which is what you use for low pressure drain systems, and put the socket inside the first flush fittings to take up the slack. Even the plumbing supply store guy couldn't find a better fit. It could be that high pressure white schedule 40 pipe could fit these fittings, but then the pvc fitting from the downpipe to the first flush won't fit. You have to use the thin wall, low pressure pipe to make that part fit.Secondly, the fitting at the bottom leaks like a sieve. The reason, the o ring inside the fitting is too small in diameter, and just sit there. So you have a plastic on plastic connection that leaks.I like the idea, and once I got everything more or less fitted, it works well. However, I plugged up the orifice drain on the bottom, because the bottom fitting leaks as much or more than the smallest drain orifice in the kit.

Update
Well in my previous review, I did not find the ring that is used to stop the ball. We'll I found it!! It was inside the down spout screw cap for the water to drain out. I would like to apologize for my first review and changing it from a one to a five star. I now can start my second system install.

It works
Not sure about the 1-star reviews saying it doesn't work in the US. I'm in Texas and it works perfectly fine with standard 3" PVC pipe that you can find at any Home Depot or Lowes, but you have to use the thick walled stuff which is a 3" ID and 3.5" OD. You cannot use the thin walled drainage PVC for this kit.
