No, unfortunately not. The bottom is the same material as the rest of the bag. It is not made with any double layer material at the bottom.

Yes. I've fit my mac in the inside pocket as well as other stuff. Its pretty roomie

it was the perfect size for my 7 year old last year in 2nd grade. He still loves it and wants to use it again this year. I think it probably would have worked at 5 as well.
