Worked for Allison 2200 RDS
I have an Allison 2200 RDS in a Hino that was leaking at the shaft. Wasn't sure how to replace the seal - do you have to drop the pan and push it out, or what? Found this, and my main concern was that if I used this device and screwed up the seal but couldn't get it out, well then I now have a larger leak that means I have to really get in there and figure out how to replace it legit right away.So I bit the bullet and removed the linkage, and had to file a little in order to get it to fit over the shaft. Count on having to file - I imagine that every shaft will have some imperfections and this thing fits extremely tight. My first go brought out only part of the seal. My second go brought out a bit more. On my third, I tightened it in significantly tighter, and lo and behold, it came out. There is some metal in the seal, and you really need to bite into it to get enough grip on it.After removing it, and looking behind it, I don't think there's a way to push it from behind. Meaning, I think that a device like this is your only way of doing it. But, I could be wrong.Putting the new seal in is a piece of cake. Just make sure you put it in the right way.

Came up short
After reading the reviews, I was concerned that it wouldn’t fit without modification, but I needed to change the seal so I gave it a shot. Fortunately it worked pretty good for me.I noticed that the end that grabs the seal are threads, like a wood screw. I didn’t hammer it in as some people talk about. Instead, I used a pry bar to push it into the seal as I screwed it in. Not easy but once it caught you can see the tool getting pulled in. I think one of the biggest trick here is to push the tool in straight to the shifter shaft. Here’s why I didn’t give it five stars. The bolt that was given with the tool was to short. As a result it couldn’t press against the shifter shaft to pull the seal out. COME ON GUYS, this is such an easy thing to get correct. As you can see in the picture the black bolt was the one that came with the kit. I ended up using the silver bolt. Once the bolt made contact with the shifter shaft it only took half a turn of the bolt for the seal to come out. I then carefully cleaned the area where the seal came out of, put some transmission oil on the seal, and then use the silver tool that comes with the kit to press it in.This was used on a 1969 Camaro

Did what it should
I purchased for the tool and it did the job. I used it on a 1991 4l80e case with the short shift shaft. The seal on the other hand I do not trust just because it is a no name seal and buying a good one is cheap insurance.
