DGL... Chewable licorice root tablets work very well for my digestion. Having a better choice over medications has made me ecstatic. I like the pleasant taste, easily chewable, and an accurate dose. I'm so pleased to be able to settle my stomach without my prescription medications. I talked to my doctor about it.

I'm sold on the benefits of DGL as a method to control acid reflux/GERD. After years of taking meds such as Prilosec, Nexium and Pepcid with only modest results at controlling reflux issues, taking DGL 20 minutes before each meal has worked far better with zero side effects.I was using a chocolate flavored gummy version of DGL but that's been hard to get, so I switched to these chewable tablets. The flavor is not bad. It has a minor licorice taste to it that is very much overshadowed by the added artificial sweetener taste. It's not a "yum" type of taste (as the gummies were) but it's perfectly fine. It's mostly a sweet taste that's not at all difficult to deal with.The tablets are pretty easy to chew. Nearly all of the tablets in the container were intact. The price is quite reasonable compared with other chewable options that provide 400mg per tablet.No complaints -- DGL works very well for me, and these tablets are easy to deal with. Five stars.

I have had acid reflux for many years now and my gastroenterologist had put me on two prescriptions, one in the morning and one before bed. I have terrible acid reflux most times after eating, especially bread, and also when I am sleeping. I will wake up feeling burning in my neck and throat. The prescriptions did work when taken consistently, but the side effects of these medications are not good for long term use. My friend told me about DGL. Her doctor, who sides towards more natural options, told her about taking DGL for acid reflux. I ordered this from AMAZON and have not taken my prescriptions since. It really have worked wonders for me. The doctor suggested taking it 20 minutes before meals, but I often forget, so I will often take after the meal or when I feel acid reflux coming on. I have now recommended this product to many friends and family. For $20, it is worth giving it a try.

Updated reciew 12 Apr 2025The formula of this item seems to have changed. The tablets are smaller and harder now. They used to have a mild candy like taste, but now taste bitter with a bitter / acidic after taste. They don’t seem to help as much as they did before. It’s quite upsetting, these were still helping my son since my last review 2 years ago.Original review 23 Mar 2023My son has been having unexplained digestion issues that give him pain and discomfort for months (currently seeing a specialist about this). He’s sensitive to many medications, so most regular options aren’t possible. One of these licorice root tablets, 30 minutes before a meal, has been the only thing that’s consistently helped him. They have a mild flavor, like a very bland candy, and have a similar taste / size to a Tums tablet - so that’s good too. He said if he has a meal much earlier than 30 minutes after taking one though, it’s not effective. So being proactive is key. It doesn’t cure what’s going on, but makes the symptoms he has much more tolerable.

Been using this product for years and it always helps immensely. I don't know if this recent bottle was off or if the formula changed thoughbut the texture and taste is almost unbearable. Still recommend it and hoping this is a one off issue.

I've been having problems with reflux for years. My most irritating symptom was constantly clearing my throat but I also was to the point where I was having heartburn daily. After trying lots of different PPIs over the years with no success, I decided to try Prevacid (my doctor said it worked better than some of the others). He was right...within a week my throat clearing was greatly reduced and I rarely had heartburn. He said I could continue to take the Prevacid after the recommended 14 day period, if it helped. After about a month on Prevacid, I started having stomach cramps and diarrhea every day. I didn't have reflux but I couldn't leave the house without being in fear if I wasn't near a restroom. After researching the side effects and finding that acid blockers/reducers can cause this side effect, I had to stop the Prevacid. The IBS symptoms were gone in a few days but the reflux was back, at least the throat clearing was. I found info about DGL while reading a message board about the side effects of Prevacid. One of the posters mentioned he started using DGL and his symptoms cleared up. So I decided I had nothing to lose and gave it a try. I'm so happy I did! I just started taking the DGL about a week ago but I've definitely noticed a difference. However, with the recommended one tablet before each meal, I didn't notice much of a change. But now I chew two tablets before each meal and it works like a charm. The throat clearing has decreased by about 90% and no heartburn. As for the taste, I was expecting the most horrible taste, based on some of the reviews, but I don't think they're bad at all. If you like black licorice, you won't have a problem...to me, they just have a mild black licorice taste and you get that licorice after taste but it is definitely not bad. I haven't tried any other brands so I don't know how the taste compares. Bottom line, if you have heartburn or reflux and you don't want to take medication, give these a try!
