Highly Customizable and Fun Game.
Though there are an assortment of expansions for this Trading Card Game out there, this one included, you don't NEED any of them; the Colony Wars set has all you require for a fully functional game. That said, I would strongly recommend pairing it with the original Base Set for a much-expanded experience. The game as played by the rules - assorted variants for assorted numbers of players are given in the provided rule sheets - is fun and reasonably easy to learn and get used to.However, I find one of the best things about it to be the fact that you can very easily come up with your own rules and your own game. The cards almost beg you to do so, in fact. (I've made various custom dice and tokens for it).The set consists of cards (with some very nice artwork) belonging to four factions vying to colonize and expand within the universe. The organic, so-called 'Blob' faction - whose rather beautiful bio-craft mostly look like weirdly mutated sea creatures - the Trade Federation, essentially just out to make a profit, the Machine Cult, mechanistic and more or less robotic, and the warmongering Star Empire... Totally love the Blob faction myself - and this set adds the two humongous organic star-worms to the Blob faction, which can pretty much eat entire battle-fleets. Fun.The cards portray both spaceships for each faction and bases (planetary and orbital), each faction having different strengths but being basically evenly matched. (Until humongous star-worms attack!)Trade and alliances between factions can be fostered, as well as just trying to blast each other to perdition. The set also contains some cards featuring unaligned vessels that can be captured and employed by any faction - or used a space pirates or such, depending how you customize the game. There are also score cards.A cheap option as opposed to some TCGs (at the time of writing) and excellent value for money. A highly adaptable sci-fi TCG.With this and the Base Set, there's great scope for galactic adventure.

An excellent, standalone expansion to Star Realms
Contains some wild and wonderful new card. It can be enjoyed by fans of the original and those generally looking for 2-player card games. It's a cross between Dominion and Magic the Gathering. You build up a deck from a shared market place. You use this deck to attack your opponent -- who may or may not be using defensive cards that you have to get past. The rules are simple and it's very easy to learn. The explanation of the rules provided in the box are well-written and easy-to-follow.My only criticisms are that:1. the box it comes in is cheap. It will get battered after time. And it s too small for you to be able to sleeve the cards within plastic protectors.2. the cards used for tracking your HP are fiddly. You have to do an annoying amount of maths to use them. I use pen and paper, which enables much quicker play.

so it's pretty much more of the same
This is an expansion for the Star Realms deck-building game that also plays as a stand-alone game. I bought it because I had recently bought Star Realms and didn't realise it only supported two players without additional decks. So, rather than buying a second, identical deck I thought I would pick up Colony Wars instead, for a bit of variety.I've Colony Wars just a few times, and only as a separate game, not mixed in with the original Star Realms. First impressions are that this deck is a bit 'wilder' than the base Star Realms. The cards seem to offer more damage but also more repair, so the games seem to swing about a bit more than the original. That said, there's not anything desperately clever or revolutionary about the cards in this deck: there are no new mechanics, so it's pretty much more of the same, but that's not a bad thing as Star Realms is a pretty solid game.As for the original, the flimsy, difficult to open box is a bit of a let down and the scoring cards seem a bit of a waste when it's so easy to maintain scores using pen-&-paper or an app. But, as for the base game, these are minor criticisms of a fun, interesting deck-builder.

Brilliant
This is a great game in a small box. It's a full 2 player deck builder. It's directly competitive. Myself and husband have played loads of games of it and it's still interesting. Great replayability

Great strategy game for all ages.
This is a great 2 player game but we also bought a second version and 3 or 4 player is just as good with different tactics (I.e you can nominate someone as the boss so that everyone attacks them as a group or attack clockwise etc). This strategy card game is good quality, easy to learn and has lots of re-playability as the trade row that you buy cards from is shuffled each game to vary it. And if you do get bored you could buy expansions etc to mix it up. We recently downloaded the Star Realms app which is just as good!

Four Stars
Straightforward to play once you have got the hang of the strengths and weaknesses of the different cards.

Continuing a great game, just got better
This has all the great features of the first game, only with completely different cards, except for the basic ones you must have! This opens up for multiple players if you have only the original and this game, so 4 players free for all!Still plays exactly the same way as before but can be merged with the original game to make a super deck or just use it solo and have a different experience of strategy.Still at a great price and just as fun as before. You can't lose!

Fun, simple Deckbuilder
If you want a nice, casual deckbuilding game that needs very little setup, Star Realms is fantastic.Literally the only flaw is the really wonky health tracker cards, which make it kind of annoying to track your health.
