Q: Can the gel packs 'live' in the freezer? I know it says to put them in 2 hours before intended use, but it would be a lot easier to just put them back

I think so, mine does! I think the 2 hrs before use is if the packs aren't frozen, they will need 2 hours to become frozen. Once they are frozen, they can be frozen as long as you like

Q: How do you heat it up? Just to be sure.

The pack can be heated up in the microwave or in boiling water. However, i have only used it as an ice pack so far. Its strong and good quality.

Q: Is it the blue surface that goes next to your skin? If so, doesn't that cause discomfort from the Velcro digging in?

The black, perforated side goes against your skin,and the velcro attaches to the blue side. My husband uses this for a knee injury and he thinks its fantastic.

Q: Do we have to change the gel all the time we use or the gel reuseable again and again

It is a sealed gel pack that you can use time and again. It is more substantial than some of gel packs that have used and should last a long time.
