Great starter kit - amazing value!
This was a gift for my daughter's birthday and she couldn't be more delighted. As the description says, there are four colours in the package. What it doesnt say is how simple it is to use. I was concerned that it may be a tedious, messy process but how wrong I was!The instructions are simple and easy to understand. Basically, there are four plastic bottles with the colour powder inside and you just open the tops and add water, give a little shake to mix. Next you dampen the item you want to dye, shape or tie it how you wish with the included elastics and then you just squirt the colour where you wish. There is a colourful instruction booklet included to show you different ways of tying your items to get the different effects. Then you leave it in a plastic bag for a few hours, rinse and give it a quick detergentless wash in the machine. Et voila, your item is ready. My daughter did this all in a few hours and by the evening she had a gorgeous tie dye sleep shirt. It has made her day! And, whereas I was worried that it may transfer to other fabrics, I needn't have been - no transfer. She has dyed 2 tshirts, 2 pairs of socks and a bag so far with this box and she still have some left. The colours are beautifully vibrant and we'll definitely be ordering more in the future. I cannot recommend it enough!

Easy and fun!
I bought this as an activity for me to do with my grandchildren - aged nearly 5 and nearly 7. The kit is for age 8+ but I felt suitable for the kids with me helping and supervising. I had already bought a pack of three cheap white cotton T shirts for each child - we had already used one T shirt each for another project so had two each to dye. This was the first time I had ever done any tie-dying myself and I was a bit nervous but it was all very easy and straight forward. We had plenty of dye left over (which was obviously wasted) so could have dyed at least double what we did - but I didn't mind as it was all an experiment really. There are only two pairs of gloves in the pack - and way too big for kids. I put one pair on my grand-daughter who was going first - but didnt bother to put any on myself. Mistake! I got some on my hands and it was several days before it wore off! We did it on the kitchen floor, which I first covered with one of those cheap plastic tablecloths that we had already had one use out of for a party. At the end I was able to gather it up off the floor, with everything we were disposing of in it and there was no marks on the floor. I also had plenty of kitchen paper handy. IMPORTANT - you will need one plastic bag (grocery bag) for EACH item you have dyed - I didn't realise this until we started, and luckily had enough bags. They do not provide bags in the kit. Once each t shirt had been dyed and wrapped in a plastic bag, I put all the bags in ANOTHER plastic bag, and left it in the bath as you have to set the dyed items aside for 4-8 hours. I left them overnight before proceeding. Each dyed item has to go SEPARATELY into the washing machine - so had to run it four times. The kit also says to run an empty cycle with detergent after each item to get rid of any dye in the machine - but I just wiped it round with kitchen paper, and there was no dye left in my machine at all. The whole process was fun and the t shirts were successful. Boy - nearly 7 - when asked his feedback said 'Absolutely brilliant!' - and the girl nearly 5 just echoed him, saying 'Brilliant!'. Photo doesnt really show how bright the t shirts are. I actually felt it was something I'd like to do on my own without the kids and experiment more!

IDEAL IF YOU WANT TO DO A BIG BATCH OF TYE DYE BUT READ UP BEFORE YOU BUY!
Easy enough to use and I managed to do this quickly and my t shirts look great and still have colour in them after a few washes. My best advice is to read all of the feedback on here as well as to have a look at a few tutorials online before you use or you buy for kids - the booklet that comes with this does have ideas about what you need to do for different designs which is great - I did roughly about 10 adult t shirts and I ran out of rubber bands that the pack provided to do the designs I wanted so I would recommend maybe buying some more rubber bands depending on how much you want to dye as well as what designs you want because some take more rubber bands than others. Also, of course the longer you leave the colour to soak into the t shirt the better the colour will be and remember DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS DO IT ON YOUR FAVOURITE CARPET, RUG, PATIO AREA OR EVEN WOODEN FLOOR CAUSE IT WILL STAIN!!! Get some bin bags and place them on grass is my best advice because even when I did it on the outside patio it still stained a bit of blue on it (until a week of rain washed it away - it did go after a while - luckily) . But great product ! Colour is still there after buying this months ago :)

Great quality and really fun activity for afternoon
Just perfect and tie dye tee shirts turned out. I'd say this would do at least 8 kids tee shirts. Colours great and naturally makes new colours as the die mixes. Have to wash each one separately after dying in the machine to save colour run. Not an issue thou. Really pleased with results will buy again. Does not come with table cover so be sure to have one to avoid ruining surfaces with dye. Instructions are fine and good value for money.

Excellent results
We had really great results with this kit. Last year we used a different one and were really dissapointed that the clothes faded really badly when we washed the dye off. This time, I soaked the items in water with salt in it, which apparently helps the dye to take. I also left the items for between 2 and 3 days - we did a lot of dyeing and I got really fed up of rinsing so some things got left an extra day! We used this kit and a smaller one of a different brand and in total I think we got 3 pairs of leggings, 3 tshirts, 6 vests and about 8 pairs of pants! I rinsed in cold water and then washed items with the same colour dye in a short wash in the machine with a small amount of powder. Everything came out really brightly and we only had two that didn't work - one tshirt which I didn't realise wasn't made of cotton, and a pair of leggings where the fabric was really too thick and we didn't use enough dye.I recommend leaving a good few hours for this project so you don't have to rush, and being careful to wipe up spills as you go - some of our items have splodges of dye they picked up from the work surface which spoils the effect a little bit.
