Very large, very cool but.....
I bought this for my 6 year old grandson, along with the Nat. Geo kit., who thought that it was very cool. In regards to this particular geode let me start by saying that it was huge. Bigger than a softball had it been completely round but it was flatter on one side which was cool. I figured it would sit nicely once broken. It was probably 85% hollow with at least 1 marble sized snow ball crystal floating around in it. The reason for 3 stars is because the geode was full of some ...substance. Clay? Sand? It looked like sand but has completely coated all the crystal formations inside. So it's not pretty. It's very "dirty" looking and dull and I have done everything I know to do to remove this substance. I am currently looking in my area for some one who can try to tell me what it is and how to get rid of it. I understand that it is a geode and you just don't know until you open it what you are going to get, it is a surprise what you will get and while every one hopes for something spectacular that is not always the case. Very cool project and learning experience, I simply wish the end result had been something closer to what he and I were expecting. Something he could display.EDIT : I was contacted by the company after my review. Even though they did nothing wrong and could not have predicted the condition of the geode that I originally bought, they sent us a new one. EXCELLENT Customer Service! And I must say the second was everything that we hoped and more. It was very large, flat on the bottom and split beautifully. To all those people out there wondering how to split these things, we used a Masonry cut off wheel with an angle grinder, a bowl of water and a turkey baster. It is very important that if you are going to try to cut these that they remain wet while cutting. (Breathing the dust these things kick off is very bad) While my husband used the grinder, I used the turkey baster to constantly keep water flowing over the geode. (Crude but effective if you don't have access to a lapidary) The geode cut perfectly in 2 beautiful pieces in less than 10 minutes of work. The picture does not do it justice because it does not pick up the glitter sparkle that this geode displays.

Great geode!
The pictures really don't do this thing justice.. It's a really nice rock! Really cool shape and was fun to cut open with the kiddos.. Would definitely recommend and will be buying more!

Gigantic Geodes
Bought 2 and one was solid and could not break. Contacted company and they sent a 2 geode kit to me. Although the 2 geodes were quite a bit smaller, my granddaughter was still excited to crack the 2 open.

Awesome Geode with Really Nice Crystals
This was a gift for my 7 year old son. He got the package and the first thing he said was "wow, this is big!" the geode we got was about softball size or maybe a little larger. Very nice in terms of what you typically get for geodes. We went down to the basement and use a cold chisel and hammer to break it open in the middle. When it broke open and the crystal facets started reflecting the light, my son was beside himself with excitement. The crystals were small, but clean and EVERYWHERE, so a very beautiful specimen I think. My son has since split one of the halves into two to allow greater visibility of the crystals, and kept the other half as is so it's more of a crystal cave. All are very nice arangements.Overall, we are very happy with this product. It's totally worth the price, and I'll probably get him a few more when spring arrives. Maybe for his Easter basket.I would recommend these without reservation for someone looking for a good introduction to geodes that will garner enthusiasm in young (or old) rock hunters.

False Advertisement re: size. Overpriced and a rip off
Purchased this item with 6x6x6 measurements noted in description. The box itself isn’t that size and actual Geode not even a full 2 inches. Had I known this in the description I would have saved my money and purchased a different product. In addition, it advertises as a kit but there was nothing in the box other than the rock that was solid - had to get it open with a saw;( save your money and purchase a product elsewhere whose dimensions are closer if you don’t care about a pretty box.
