KLUTZ Lego Make Your Own Movie Activity Kit

My 6 YO son is obsessed with Legos and LOVES this kit. The best part is the tear-out foldable "backdrops" you can use for various scenes. It (obviously, but worth saying) doesn't come with a ton of legos, a camera, or an app/software for putting the movies together - but it does tell you how to collect all of that stuff, which we had on hand, and you probably do too. Actually my son has just been having fun playing with Lego people and cars and stuff in the little scene backdrops, or he has been happy with me filming his stories on my phone in video mode and watching them back, so you wouldn't have to mess with the stop motion thing at all if you don't want to. This would make a great bday gift for a 6, 7, 8 or even up to 10 YO. And older kids could do the movie shooting more independently. My 6YO has been playing with it for hours already - an awesome buy!

The media could not be loaded. This is a well thought out guide to simple stop motion animation! My daughter loves Legos and was making movies by just recording her play time so I got her this for Christmas. We use the Stop Motion Studio free app. The book comes with some scenery, lego pieces, and some "mad libs" style script prompts. It's a fun way to spend some creative quality time together!

she makes the cutest lego videos with this! comes with such cute minifigs! backgrounds are okay though.

My son saw this book in his school book order sheet and HAD TO HAVE IT. So I bought it off Amazon for his 6th birthday. He built his own mount for his iPad mini and was making stop-motion videos in no time! I was worried it would be too advanced for him, but once his dad showed him how to use the program and how to move the pieces just right, he was all set! It keeps him occupied for HOURS and I love that it’s an interactive way to channel his creativity and do something else fun with the millions of LEGO sets he has. Definitely pleased with this purchase!

You don't need this item to make stop motion videos but it's a good launching point for kids. In addition to this you will need a stop motion app (We use Stop Motion Studio with the $5 add on package). This helped my kids (ages 7 & 9) figure out the basics of creating movies. They started with a couple of the examples and went from there. The backgrounds are helpful as are the additional faces and props. The amount of time they are spending creating these movies and being blissfully occupied is well worth the cost of this book.

For whatever reason I had assumed that there was an animation app associated with this product - but, instead the book tells you to go find one to use. Also, while there are some LEGO pieces included - the book shows scenes made with a lot of pieces that are not included. The book does include some printed backgrounds that you can use - which is sort of a plus. In the right hands this book would be something fun to do - but IMO the majority of kids would be more frustrated.

This book is a great value, it comes with varied accessories and mini figures (actors) for your kid to make mini movies, the only thing is that either your kid already has a cellphone or tablet with a stop motion capture app or a family member might need to install the app and lend him the cellphone from time to time, other than that it's great fun and the expression on their faces and the sense of accomplishment they get when they watch the movies they just did is amazing.
