No. there are metal slides welded onto the legs only on the right side, without these the drawers will have no support.

It’s about 2cm. It’s a sturdy construction.

I don't think it's necessary. Might look a wee bit unusual perhaps? It's basically a good desk at a good price. It's not a Rolls Royce.
