Where can you buy the cards shown in the picture?

There is a Boardmaker computer program that makes these symbols/cards. You might be able to find some ready-mades online - as a matter of fact I do believe I have seen then on eBay and Amazon. Do a search for Boardmaker symbols on Amazon and some groupings come up.

Do smethport cards fit well in the slots?

We printed Boardmaker symbols and put those in the display. I don't know about Smethport cards. I would check sizes of the cards first.

Do you hang it using nails?

You could. If you cannot use nails, you could use those hooks that you stick onto the wall.

How wide are the clear plastic pockets. I have 2 pocket charts that are not that wide and tall cards flop over.

I am not at the same location as my daughter's pocket chart, but we use them to house her 2x2 inch symbols. So, with that said, I would guess they are about 2 inches tall and if I recall correctly the length is maybe 6 inches or so. Tall cards would flop in the 2 inch well, but could maybe be placed sideways. I hope this helps. I can measure when I get home and get back with you if you like?
