I think a #12 might be good. Depending on what I am making I use different sizes. When I am doing zipper pulls I like #8. When I do key rings I use #10 which is darn close to 1/2"

I agree with you. Split rings are double looped jump rings wherein you have to split the two loops to attach a charm and attach it to the chain or bangle. The title should say open jump rings or "Open O rings", not split rings.
