Excellent for fine hair & furred dogs/cats. Not loud, easy to use, BUT GET a 3.5 to 4 blade for it for half inch hair!
Really great price on an excellent product that really works for small dogs in particular. We have a Yorkie & making an appointment for her at various doggy hair salons was becoming a real hassle as each seems to take on too much work or suddenly the price went up to astronomical proportions for a hair cut.So we took matters into our own paws/hands & got this shaver after exhaustive readings of reviews & looking at the manufacturer's page. We learned quickly that the plastic thingees aren't as useful as just getting an additional 4.0 or 3.5 or 3.75 blade which translates to 1/2 inch hair on the dog. The big blade that comes with the Andis 21420 is a #10 which is nice but will mow down to the skin if you're not particularly careful, no matter how easy the You Tube instructions make it. There are NO INSTRUCTIONS to speak of with this unit & no amount of complaints to Andis direct has netted us any more. We did not buy the kit with the DVD because you can get your training right from You tube. The only issue is the directions for changing the blade, which doesn't even come with the additional blades..you would think... but no.My significant realized that it is just a slip on & off situation, no need to undo screws or anything & each blade comes with a trimming blade already installed so you don't need to buy an additional trimmer blade like we did. That's more than you will need if you are just doing one dog.All in all an excellent product. We suggest that you DO buy yourself some extra blade oil & some of the cooling oil that they talk about but don't have in the kit. DO buy the kit, because it will hold all of your additional blades & the oil, plus the trimmer in ONE place.

The answer is YES!
UPDATE 8/9: After using this clipper for a while now, I'm very happy with it (despite the price dropping). It took a few times but now I can do both dogs very quickly in one sitting. I don't have a professional grooming table so I do this in the laundry room with the dog on top of the washer.I would highly recommend using a disposable wee pad under them instead of a towel... the cut hairs are very tough to wash out (they seem to just weave themselves into cloth!)ORIGINAL REVIEW:These were the questions I had before buying this clipper:*Does it really work that much better than human clippers? YES*Is it quiet enough that it won't freak out my dogs? YES*Will I be able to handle it well even though I have no professional grooming experience? YES*Is it worth the price tag? YESWith two small dogs, I found that it managed to cut through their differing types of fur perfectly. My Papillon mix has a double coat and it sliced through without any problems! And the number #1 guard was the perfect length to use on my Maltese for that "puppy" cut.I have no prior grooming experience so I just watched a bunch of online videos. This clipper seemed to work easily and fit into my hand just fine. It has a ceramic blade and it didn't feel like it got hot for a while (I managed to groom both dogs in one sitting). But since I was using a guard, it wasn't much of an issue. This also has a quiet motor so it didn't freak the dogs out. And unlike the inexpensive human clippers, it doesn't make an abrupt noise when you first turn it on.I received the item exactly as pictured: a purple cutter with 4 guards, small tube of oil and a black case everything fits into. For my two small dogs, I don't feel like I need to buy other blades as the one that comes with it, along with the guards, seem to fit all of my needs right now. Again, I say this with inexperience...just relying on my satisfaction with the end result.Overall, I would definitely recommend this clipper!

Solved My Problem
I bought the Andis MBG2 7 piece for grooming a couple small Maltese dogs. I had bought them looking for a quieter set of clippers because the ones I was using sounded like a freight train coming at the dogs. This caused way too much stress for them and made for a real time consuming process of wrangling and clipping. The Andis MBG2 ended that. The clippers are much quieter. There's not a lot of vibration. The dogs are much more comfortable and stand still while clipping. There is more weight to the clippers than I expected. I'm thinking they used a thick casing to dampen vibration along with the noise and that's the weight I'm feeling. The clippers aren't heavy by any means. I'm used to using several cheap clippers where the weight was as light as rain... however; that translated to noisy, shaky, and ready to jump out of your hands. These clippers feel solid. That said, I noticed the clipper head (where the blades are) start to heat up as you use them. Not exorbitantly, but it was noticeably getting warmer. Along the body of the clippers wasn't heating up at all, just the head. Again, not hot. Just warmer than I expected. In an abundance of caution for the dog's comfort, I developed a process of clipping for 10 minutes and then using scissors for the sensitive or hard to reach areas... and then back to clipping some more. The clippers themselves work well clipping. Are they perfect? No. I do wish they clipped more with each pass but they do get more than my old ones did on a pass and more than low priced pet or even people clippers on dogs. I've tried several clippers before arriving at the Andis EasyClip Pro-Animal MBG2 and these aren't bad. Is there better. Yes... but you'll pay for it. I haven't had reason to change the blade yet, so maybe different blades may make a difference for the better. When I start swapping out the blade, I may revise this review to reflect a better cut. There's a lot of blades out there and these clippers take the Andis blades as well as the Oster too so I still have options moving forward with these clippers. I was happy with the purchase.
