I would have written a better review if it weren't for the fact that the cover of the book is noticeably smaller than the pages and there are a few dents and scratches on it as well. I'm not sure if it's a shipment issue or I was sent a poorly made one. The book, on the other hand, is a masterpiece.

What a tale!
Second World War must have made a million authors. I have read books and then I have read books. But this was the first story I read from the Russian side. Oh boy, what a tale it turned out to be. A pair of young strangers setting off in search of a dozen eggs? Now, that’s not surely about war, you’d say. But that’s not about the eggs for sure. What it’s about is how naked the war brutally makes all of us. The fear, the hunger, the suspicion, the lust yes the lust, the courage, the ingenuity and hunger again. The author effortlessly underscores the meaninglessness of everything on this gigantic battle stage of Leningrad. And what in the end remains is a trivial addition of a dozen eggs and a love that has endured in the course of finding them. Take a bow Mr. Benioff.
