Advanced Camera + Quality
I've been testing this camera for a couple weeks. The build quality is exceptional as are the capabilities. For a camera of this price point, it's pretty amazing. The fact that it has both H264 and H265 codecs is unheard of. H265 is the newest and best video compression codec btw. The image stabilization inside this camera is amazing as is the lens--its field of view is great, but I usually only run narrow mode unless going for a special effect of super wide. Also, a lot of great add-ons in the box including mic, mounts, waterproof case, etc.

Great 4K video, housing cracked in less than a month
I've had my Alcove Pro Cine 4K for almost a month now and love the video quality and time lapse features of the camera. I was recently using a small Joby type tripod with the 1/4" 20 mount on the bottom and the camera and when I was adjusting the angle of the camera the plastic around the threaded insert cracked slightly and now the threading is lose and unusable. There was very little resistance on the tripod head, so I wonder if I have a defective unit or the plastic on the camera housing is just not strong enough to hold the size of the mount thread.Be careful if you are mounting the Alcove directly. I have it now in the included plastic housing with the gropro mount adapter on it, but it is very annoying to remove that every time to change the battery. It is also rather cheap plastic and I'm afraid it will break from all the on and off and leave me with no way to mount the camera. (I really enjoyed mounting it directly) I bought this camera over a GoPro because I wanted to support the little guy but I really wish the camera was a tad more rugged and durable.I am giving the quality of the video (4K 30p h.265) 5 stars, but giving the housing 3 stars because it cracked. I would also have to give the software 4 stars. The touchscreen and menu are great, but the lack of auto shutoff is sometimes a little frustrating. I've drained a handful of batteries by accident because the screen was off but the camera itself was still on and the power light is hard to see in the daylight. For version two, I hope that auto shutoff is a feature, along with 4K 60, 20mp stills and a more rugged shell. I would buy from Alcove Pro again because I still believe in supporting the little guy and felt the owner was very passionate and invested in his product. The somewhat cheesy, self shot marketing video won me over. In spite of my issues, I would still recommend.

Powerful video camera in a tiny package - update
Just started playing around with this amazing little video camera. It records video at a range of resolutions (up to 4K) and frame rates, takes 16 megapixel photos, and fits in the palm of my hand. The touchscreen-based user interface is pretty intuitive and includes control over ISO, exposure comp, white balance and metering in ‘Photo’ mode. Similar controls are available in video mode. The package includes a bunch of accessories like waterproof case, helmet mount and a spare battery. I haven’t tried slo-mo or time-lapse shooting yet, nor the H265 codec (supposed to give better quality and compression). So far, I’m impressed and really like the wide-angle lens. The main strangeness so far is the need to format the microSD card to FAT32, but that was easily done on my Mac. Overall, great value and good fun.UPDATE after a couple of weeks' more experience: I've never owned a GoPro so I don't have a strong basis for comparison, but this camera seems to include features that you would pay more money for in the GoPro, and the image quality - esp at 4k with the H.265 codec - is superb. I've also done some 120fps slo-mo, and used one 1 second time-lapse to create highly-accelerated videos of bike rides, using the supplied mount. Still loving it.

This camera is easy to set up and run I like it because you can set it on loop and let it go.

The best wide angle high definition camera I have found
I am an athletic director and use the Alcove camera to film basketball, volleyball games, and other sporting events. I am able to set it up almost anywhere in the gym (center court or angled in a corner) and it is able to record the entire game without anybody moving it. It records with fantastic definition and the picture is also always stable, even if it is attached to bleachers (with fans jostling and moving them). I bought two of these cameras years ago and they were so great I bought another one. However, when I went to buy another one, they had been discontinued. I have bought 8 different similar cameras in two years trying to duplicate the quality, reliability, and wide angle ability of the Alcove and none of them have come close. The biggest advantage of this camera was the incredible wide-angle filming it allows me to do. Other cameras, even if they match the quality, do not come close to the wide-angle ability of the Alcove. They have also been very durable, 4 of the 8 cameras I have bought since the Alcove have all broken in one way or another, but the Alcoves have stayed true and never given me issues. I have continually searched for any used Alcoves over the past two years and have found one, which was a great addition to our department. Eventually, I was able to track down the original manufacturer and he was able to sell me some more. I can promise that I will take great care of these cameras, because to date I have found no camera that can do the same job as these.
