Not for the lay person.
My wife (deceased) had fibromyalgia and this book was recommended by a friend. It’s not for the lay person. Very scientific; written for physicians. It is misleading to say it is a guide for patients. My wife and I are college graduates and we couldn’t understand it. Nor did we see any recommendations which help lessen her pain.

Not much substance here
Hard to read. It basically is reports or research in small print. Nothing to interest me. Too many pictures. A waste of my money.

This book might have saved my life (and my sanity)
As a layperson with a keen interest in medicine and research, and as a chronic severe pain sufferer of 20 years, this book changed my life. I had been from doctor to doctor and specialist to specialist with no more help than low dose pain medicine and muscle relaxers. These took my pain from a 9 to a 6 on a good day.I've dissected this book, cover to cover, took each recommendation of Dr. Vasquez's, and researched them further on PubMed and other medical research websites. I decided which supplements and vitamins were the least likely to cause a reaction or long term complications and most likely to help, and now I am on a regimen of 13 different supplements. I bought all of mine on Amazon.Overall, the initial investment is expensive (but not as expensive as many prescription medications out there!), but well worth it. My pain is usually a 5/6 in the mornings after I take my low dose pain killer and muscle relaxer. With this regimen, the pain is closer to a 2/3! That's a significant improvement for me considering for a while there I was contemplating going on with my life and each minute I sat in pain questioning my existence.I can only hope this book helps many more of my chronic pain sufferers out there. We are largely a sick and quiet group of people, with little energy to care for ourselves and families, and even littler energy for advocating acceptable medical care for ourselves. Sometimes we just have to take the steering wheel into our own hands.

Not for beginners
This is an advanced book. Do not buy this book unless you have some background in science, biochemistry, or are willing to spend hours educating yourself in the basic background information - you will be disappointed and will get little out of it, then feel compelled to unfairly give it a low review. For those who already understand the more basic concepts that are NOT explained in this book (because this book is written for the person who ALREADY knows said basic concepts), it is a treasure trove of information. It is a lifetime of knowledge distilled and condensed. How much you get out of this book will almost be in direct proportion to what you already know; the more you know, the more you will get out of it.This book cannot replace a real medical practitioner. This book gives understanding, but cannot provide personalized medical care. Everyone is different; therefore blindly 'doing everything' in the book does not guarantee improvement. Interventions must be tailored to the individual.
