The best shorts ever made in history and the future of every universe.
While I feel like a suburban grandfather who discovered that Wilson tennis shoes are the greatest thing ever and purchased 100 pairs in the 90's before they could go out of business, these really are the equivalent in the form of shorts. Perfect fit: I am a short dude—5'6" and it is really hard to find shorts that don't make me look like a bro about to sip some Monster energy drink. Not only that—but if you find the right length short it is often times too tight on the thighs. With that being said—these fit perfectly, but that's just about 1/10th of the awesomeness. Look: They look like typical workout shorts or swim trunks, but no logos no annoying branded things except for in the back on the belt loop. They have awesome pockets: that can fit a lot. Which is kind of silly because you don't need a whole lot to fit in most cases—but when I co hiking / climbing, they are perfect to hold small things without having to take off my backpack. Also have some straps and belt loop holes—I often will loop the waist strap of my backpack to keep things from moving. Sunproof: don't need to say more, I have tested this on many 10+hr hikes, it is true. Quick drying: these dry faster than any of my swim trunks. Never smell: After wearing for a week of long hikes and various activities, no smell—no problem. Since they keep going out of stock, I will continue to purchase my size every time I can and stock up on them, never need to buy any other athletic shorts / swim trunks / casual shorts again.

above my expectations.
I an so pleasantly pleased with theses shorts. I was worried they would be to big but they are perfect. I wear a 31 waist in jeans that have room. I got the 32 and they are perfect. And the material is so comfortable and stylish. Yea a happy experience and have 3 more pair in different colors on the way. I had to come back and edit my post. Another really nice thing is they are 10 inches and go above the knee. I hate the new fad of below the knee but I am 55 so .......lol I ordered 2 pair at 6 inch that I have not received yet but I'm sure I will love them. The material is very light weight and cool , perfect timing as its 106 outside today.

Good walking shorts
I know these are part of Columbia's fishing wear line, but they are great walking shorts. I walk about 10 miles a day and wanted a pair of lightweight shorts in a quick-dry technical fabric that weren't too long, so I got these in the 6-inch version. (Long 9 or 10-inch shorts are really uncomfortable when you walk long distances.) Most of the time, I am more comfortable in cotton canvas shorts, but those get wet with sweat on my walks and take a long time to dry. These are just what I was looking for. They are light and comfortable and they don't restrict the movement of my legs. I love the phone pocket on the right that is exactly the right size for my iPhone. Putting the phone in a regular front pocket leaves it banging against my leg, but this pocket is perfectly situated to hold the phone snugly, and higher against my hip, without interfering with my movement. The fabric is a pretty standard nylon-ish feel -- nothing special there -- but it does what I want in drying quickly. If I walk in some light rain, they are often dry again by the end of my walk. They also dry quickly when they get damp from sweat. Overall, I am very pleased with these shorts. I still prefer cotton canvas shorts for general everyday wear, but these are perfect for my workouts.

Best (Fishing) Shorts Ever!
Fits great, light and airy. Like a pair of swim trunks. I had 1 pair I used for salt water fishing, and had them for years. Very durable. Then I was shopping for shorts on Amazon one day and came across them. I bought 3 - one in each color - and only wish they had more colors. These are solid, quality shorts, with great seams and stitching, and extremely durable. And I don't know how to say this, but the pockets "feel" just right - easy to open, plenty deep - kind of "ergonomically" perfect for me. Most stains come right out, although you can see some Tuna blood on my first pair. I probably won't ever need another pair of fishing shorts, for the rest of my life (now that I have 3 of these).

The Perfect Short
I bought a pair of the Original Permit shorts about 3 years ago. They have easily been my favorite pair of shorts. I did not know what they were called and searched for them until I found these, the updated version. The only difference are the vents in the pockets and the loop on the right hip. So essentially not much different. They are wicking but not too much like a bathing suit, and the elastic in the back makes them super comfortable. The pockets are not too busy like most fishing shorts, so you can still wear them in public. I will wear these around the house on a lazy day, outside while doing yard work, at music festivals, or when I take my kayaks out. I do not exaggerate when I say these are the perfect versatile short. 10/10. I will be buying a few more pairs.

Waist fit is good but a little loose
The material is thin, but hope it is durable. Waist fit is good but a little loose, a narrow belt will take it as wider belt will not fit through the loops. I am 5'9" and six inch inseam seems still a little long while standing up, but sitting on chair will pull it to mid-thigh which is fine for me. 8 inch inseam will drop it down close to your knee while walking. This shorts is not a tight fit on the butt area and the leg opening is huge in size. I can pull them open almost like a skirt. But this is good for rock climbing I guess. I guess it is designed this way because there is no elasticity on the material used, so a big leg opening and loose fit is required for comfort, but it is too baggy for looking sharp. Front side pocket is to shallow so things tend to fall out but the lower front cargo pockets with Velcro lock are great. There is a small pocket at from right, but it is netted and no locking function which is total useless. Anything protruding items like keys will cut right through the net, and I don't want to put credit cards or cash in it as it is easily visible by others. I have not yet put it into hard work so not sure how long it will last. I will probably not buy it again but the overall is consider OK for most people.

I’m normally a 32” waist so I ordered a 32... they fit, but were a bit tight and they don’t stretch very much. I kept them because I’m losing weight but I ordered another pair a 34” waist, they fit like a dream. The material is lightweight and comfortable and love the 6” inseam as I’m 5’7 and goes above my knee. I can see them being my new favourite shorts and I highly recommend them.

My husband loves these shorts, fit a little small, had to return and get a size up from his regular size. But really nice!!
