I bought this as a gift for my mom, who is an herbalist and has a wider ranging love for all things plants and their lifecycles and their history.This book is the perfect gift for any plant lover. The tidbits and facts and so very interesting and the vintage like illustrations are so beautiful!It's broken into categories for easy searching or looking up of your favorites, but its a great read from beginning to end as well

I'm studying to become an herbalist and this is a great book to add to my library . I enjoy the art and the information given for each plant. I learned from this boom and I would recommend it to others.

This book offers brief passages about many commonly known plants, whether through lore or daily life. It isn't just based off of western Christian lore or western superstitions like Charlotte de la Tour's "Language of Flowers" (while it is very romantic, it is biased and some of it isn't quite understandable for someone who is not of European extraction). It also includes the beliefs and medicinal uses of middle eastern, northern european, far eastern, and native americans of both continents. It's a very age-friendly book that could probably be read by anyone at least 8-9 years old. As it is written in English, it would probably stimulate interest in other cultures if the reader does not already.

Such a wonderful book! Lovely images, great info. I thought I'd just flip through and read sections that interested me, but I ended up sitting down and reading it page for page.

I'm always interested in folklore and this book gives succinct info on the meaning and language of flowers. If you read Victorian fiction and/or poetry, this will give you added insight into the authors' intent.

So. I like flower lore. i like symbolism. you want a list? this has it alphabetically. you want a little bit of explanation/origin? ITS GOT THIS. u want a calendar or depictions of seasons in ye olde days? ITS GOT IT.yeah the cover is kind of disappointing but it's a delight

Getting interested in this subject, and I like the info in this book. Having just started in this study, I have this book and one other on the subject, and I have noticed some differences between them. But I know folklore can have some variance anyway. Still an interesting read.

I expected really bad illustrations from reading some of the reviews. And I maybe expected a bad printing of these illustrations too. I have seen some bad prints made from poorly cut and worn woodcuts in books made all the worse by a terrible print job.But the illustrations in this book are better quality than many of the etchings and woodcuts you may find in books on say William Blake’s art or others. I found nothing terrible in the quality of illustrations here. And the illustrations are clearly printed with crisp lines.If you have experience reading art history books then you will have no problems reading this book. I was delighted at the collection of illustrations and fascinating research presented in this book.

This is a lovely tactile book. I cannot understand any negative reviews, my copy is clear, with great illustrations and I know it will be a great reference for me.

I have ordered this book for one of my friend and I must say this book contains almost every information about plants which you can grow easily
