Anti-bark collars won't help a dog with anxiety
I was reluctant to give this collar a good rating because I've had trouble using the collar because of a lack of understanding or because I couldn't find answers to my questions until recently. I've spent hours researching this and similar collars to understand how to properly use this collar with my dog.Indoors, my dog responds most to the vibration and runs to me whining when the collar vibrates. In a quiet environment he doesnât like the vibration or the noise the vibration makes. That startles him more than the beeping.Outside, he ignores the shock and will bark at certain dogs. This is an indication that he has anxiety (common in Bichon mixes) that an anti-bark collar will not address and must be "trained out of him". This is not the fault of the collar apparently. (web search "why do bichon frise dogs bark so much").Most of the trouble I've had with getting an understanding for how to use this collar came from the Customer question and answers. I don't see the manufacturer or distributor response to any of the questions. Many of these are from other people who used the collar and are giving their understanding of how the collar works.Re: Silicon Probe coversI believe another contributing factor to the trouble I've had using this collar on my dog is that he has tight curls. I removed the silicon probe covers believing this would increase the shock intensity. It actually reduces the intensity without the silicon covers. This is counter-intuitive but true and have tested this on the base of my thumb where the skin is thicker. I was desperate to get this collar to work better. Using the cover works best to get a response from my dog. I also discovered that the shock is not strong so it will not hurt the dog.Re: Battery Life - much better than expectedThe rechargeable battery is the main reason why I purchased this dog collar. A 10-pack of RFA-67 6-volt batteries for the other collars would cost around $12, which means I would spend over $30 per year on batteries if they only last 2 weeks. I saw collars for under $20 but I would have to purchase batteries right away. Two 2-packs cost $14 so a cheaper collar with 10-weeks worth of batteries would cost the same as this dog collar. The choice was clear.I canât speak to how long the batteries last if the collar is used for 10 - 12 hours per day but a typical charge for me lasts for about 40 days as I only use the collar for an hour or two most days.Confusing instructions about Sensitivity and Intensity Levels:The title shows that there are "5 Adjustable Sensitivity and Intensity Levels". There are only 5 adjustable âSensitivity settingsâ. The 4 shock âIntensity Levelsâ are not adjustable. They are automatically increased between 8-46 seconds if the dog continues to bark. The instructions I have doesn't explain the sensitivity levels very well but after testing on myself, I haven't seen any increase in the shock intensity with an increased sensitivity setting. The difference between the 1st and 4th shock levels are very slight without the silicon probe covers. I recommend using the silicon covers at least until the dog responds. If you want to reduce the shock intensity, remove the covers. The instructions with the collar are very confusing and the chart explaining the training modes isn't very clear. I attached a chart with my own attempt at explaining how the shock collar works. The collar returns to step one if the dog stops barking for 30 seconds. In the 6th step, the collar enters into a "Protection State" for 2 minutes and will not respond if the dog continues to bark. Pressing the sensitivity button will cancel the Protection State and re-activates the collar, returning it to step 1.Re: Claim that the collar only responds to dog barks between 1000-2000kHZ frequencies and 80-90dbI believe it's possible that the dog collar responds to frequencies between 1 - 2 kHz and not 1000 - 2000 kHz. The average person under 40 can hear up to 15 kHz and a typical dog whistle is between 23 to 54 kHz. Sounds in that frequency range can't be heard by people or dogs. My 2 dogs bark between 700 Hz to 1600 Hz and 85dB to 107dB so this collar seems correct for my pets.80dB is about the volume of a busy street and 90dB is about the volume of power tools or a diesel truck. Neither a truck nor a busy street will set of the collar but other noises with that volume may if it's in the in the same frequency range. I don't understand the sensitivity as it relates to the dB level. With the collar sensitivity set on 3, my dog's whining will trigger the collar to shock and sometimes when other dogs bark nearby. If another dog is nearby barking loudly, the collar will be triggered. The radio in the car will sometimes set off this collar when the dog is in the front seat. I know the collar must be tighter to prevent other dogs from setting it off but I believe the collar is properly adjusted with room for one finger between the collar and the dogâs neck.Final advise:If your dog is playing, turn off or remove the collar. Youâll confuse or stress the dog if it goes off when youâre playing with him.

Works Great On My Stubborn German Shepherd!
I am someone that does not believe all reviews they read, but this collar really works. I work from home and I was so tired of my GSD barking at squirrels while I am on a WebEx call. The collar is easy to program and took minimal training for my dog to know what is expected of him before he gets the correction from the collar. It is like night and day! This collar really works. I am getting a second one for our female German Shepherd!

So far, so good
We have had a few different bark collars for our Pug, since she is one of those incessant barkers that never seems to listen once she gets on a roll. Most of them we have had major complaints with because they stopped working after a few days or weeks or they just didnât do the trick, but this one is different. First off, it has various modes, so if you donât want the shock feature, you donât have to use it. Secondly, it seems to have a pretty good battery life. We put it on her for a few hours during the day and then take it off and turn the device off overnight and it keeps going for a week or more at a time, so you arenât constantly having to charge it.This device seems to be resistant to water and dirt and is easy enough to clean at the end of the day. We noticed even on the first day she wore it, even on the lowest setting, that she didnât bark. It seems now that even when she is not wearing the collar she thinks about it before beginning to bark and it has lessened a lot. When she is wearing the collar, we have no issues with her barking at all.The instructions that came with it were a bit lacking, but we figured out how to get her into it eventually. We have had no issues with it causing her skin discomfort or her not allowing us to put it on her in the morning. There was no remote with this device, but we were glad. having it automated means you donât always have to be there to catch every single bark, and that makes life easier. The collar portion is strong and well made and is adjustable to a range of different sizes for medium and larger dogs. I personally think the box on it would be too big for any dog that isnât at least 10 pounds, but I guess it also depends on the neck size of the animal.Overall, so far we have been using this for a month and have no complaints with it. The price was good and it does what it claims. I would recommend this to other customers who want to curb the barking habits of their pet in a safe and humane way.
