Videos are better
I enjoyed Zak's videos on dog training. They are 'real'. I thought the book would be the answer to some problems that I had with puppy training. The ideas did not work as well for me as they did in his videos. I didn't want a puppy tied to me all day. And, guess what? The puppy didn't want his leash tied to me either. Zak has many good ideas. I guess it is a revolution but only if all parties can make it work. I couldn't and my puppy couldn't. I bought several other training guides that did work for me.

Best dog training book I've seen
Dogs have a lot to teach us about unconditional love, play, learning to enjoy the small things in life, and not holding grudges. We also have a lot of things to teach our pet, but how can we learn to effectively communicate and train our pup without losing patience? Each dog learns a little differently, but in this book Zak George provides a not only humane way to train, but a way that succeeds. He gives detailed, easy step-by-step training techniques that not only train the dog, but the human as well. The layout is well done and easy to follow and easy to navigate when you're wanting to work on specific skills. The Kindle edition almost seems a little better, since it has the video links right in the book, but links are easy to find even with physical edition.Outcome So Far:I started watching his Youtube videos when I got two puppies and this book goes into a little more detail on his topics plus a few additional ones. Since adopting his training tips from this book as well as the videos, I've seen leaps and bounds in communication with my two dogs. Admittedly, mine came kennel trained, are obsessed with grooming (teeth brushing, fur brushing), loving bath time, ignore cars, and haven't learned all the tricks he teaches yet (since we haven't gotten to all of them) so I can't attest to all the techniques. The ones I've tried, however, have done wonders. They sit, they stay consistently (even from far distances and with distractions), His technique for getting them to speak was the only one that worked (I tried about 6 or 7 others out there before I found his). His leash training technique got my dogs walking without pulling in less than 2 weeks and they're 5 months old. Until I read his section on fetch and teaching a dog how to play Frisbee, I couldn't get my puppies to play fetch. They no longer puppy bite, steal, and almost have no jumping down. They're doing a mostly consistent fetch and it's only been a few weeks. Based on other training techniques I've looked at, they're about where most people expect a 9 months to 1 year old dog to be at. They're by no means all the way trained, but, as mentioned before, I haven't got all the way through the book yet. The basic skills, however, are pretty close to meeting expectations and they perform them better than some of my neighbor's dogs. I'm excited to see where they end up after they've graduated from learning all the tricks in this bookI would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a puppy or adult dog who needs help learning the ropes.

A wonderful and helpful book
Zak's book is superb. I made the mistake of getting my dog before getting the book, so when it arrived I was a bit stressed about some of my dog's behaviors already (pulling on leash and biting mainly). However, Zak's book helped me start my dog, Onion, on her road to being the perfect pup quickly. I was easily able to jump to the parts of the book I needed, and the accompanying YouTube videos were also helpful. Once I started training her using Zak's methods, Onion's behavior started to improve.I perused other sections of the book, and I'm glad I did. The sections on basic care and training other behaviors are very helpful for my future plans. The section on tricks is one of my favorite parts. Zak's explanations are clear and concise and make trick training easy. I've taught my dog every trick in the book but the back stall and speak. One problem I have with the book and the accompanying videos is that the link for the video on "Nipping" opens a video on loose leash training.I highly recommend this book to any current or future dog owner.

Suddenly realised that you haven't a clue how to relate to or train your new dog? This book was my solution.
When I first bought my 11 week old puppy home, we looked each other in the eyes and I realised in horror that I didn't have a clue how to communicate with him, and he hadn't a clue what the heck I was trying to say, or get him to do. Painfully aware that this very cute tiny bundle of fluff was rapidly going to turn into a large breed adolescent dog, I scanned the internet for a book that would help me get the poor petrified thing under control before I bumbled into making one mistake after the other. Thank goodness that in my panic I stumbled across and bought this book. It's refreshingly modern, positive approach demystified, in a step by step, easy to understand manner, not only everything you need to know, from what to do before you even get your dog (should have bought it sooner) right through to easy to follow guidance on how to tackle a thorough range of issues or challenges you might face, or more cleverly, how to prevent the problems arising in the first place (phew!). But that's not the best part. This book blew my mind away with amazingly clarity how to simply RELATE to your dog. I've honestly been transformed from a novice puppy owner who, lets face it, didn't have a clue, into a confident owner with an amazing understanding of where my dog is coming from, what his limitations are and knowing what's fair or unfair to expect. People often notice this understanding I now have with my dog, and subsequent good control he's under, and enquire how, so I find myself recommending this book on a regular basis. The look in my dog's eyes that I now get what he's feeling, or needing, or tempted by (yes you can predict what he's about to do and have some chance of preventing it) is not only a relief to both of us but has resulted in an understanding of each other that outstrips words on a page or in a review. If you only buy one book on dog training and want a fantastic relationship and understanding of your dog, this is the one to get.

Thank you Zak
What a fantastic book! We have a Jack Russell terrier rescued from a puppy farm and she was scared and nervous off everything, we got this book and followed zak's advice and now she is a lovely, outgoing dog who loves everyone now. I highly recommend this book.

Great, informative book!
I have 3 spaniels and when we got our new puppy and was going from 2 to 3, I thought then I really needed to do my research so that it would be a smooth transition. I bought this book prior too getting the puppy and decided to get to work on the two dogs I already had, I followed what Zak was saying, watched his Youtube videos which were very informative and read this book and his other one 'Zak George's Guide to a Well-Behaved Dog'. I definitely feel due to these 2 books and his videos that I have a very well behaved household of dogs! There is so many things in this that I didn't know and of course things that I did know but it was good to get a refresher on some things due to not having had a puppy for a while! I wish this was about when I got my first puppy because I would've learnt a lot from it. If your looking at getting a dog and your wanting to learn as much information as you can then I'd highly recommend this. I've let friends borrow these books now so that they can learn from it and they've been glad to have had it there for peace of mind.

Training for Humans, Really!
This is a great book on sensible and 'common sense' empathetic methods for teaching dogs. More importantly, it's a great book for training humans to train dogs! Used alongside his you tube videos you'll find yourself in your dog's world learning what makes her tick and using this to to train yourself to control her:-)

Great training book!!!
After watching some of his you tube videos i decided to purchase this book as a reference to training my dog! It has so many easy tips and guides to help home train my puppy. Is also shows the links to you tube so you can watch the video about the lesson you are reading.Unlike some other dog training methods Zac George is all about creating a positive relationship with your dogs and not punishing or shouting at your dog when they do something wrong, he explains why the dog may be doing what's he/she is doing and how to fix it!!!!
