This simple bit of kit allowed me to resuscitate an old laptop which we thought was unusable.I took the hard drive out of the old laptop (slightly nerve wracking but actually very straightforward) ;Slotted it into this external caddy - a very simple operation and a very good fit for the drive;Connected it to the USB3 connection of a newer, Windows 10 laptop;The new laptop recognised it as a disk with errors and offered to scan and fix it;This took over an hour - I was beginning to think it had failed;But it eventually gave the message that it had successfully repaired the disk;I was then able to read and back up all the disk contents;And replace it in the laptop where it now works again.So for under £7 I saved myself a couple of hundred on a new laptop!The caddy itself is of plastic construction but seems strong enough for the job. I had no problem with it sliding around on the desk as others have mentioned. Others have mentioned the logo but I have no problem with that. The supplied lead fits securely and works correctly.All in all I am very pleased with this purchase.

I use devices like this to hold 2.5 inch drives for backing up my laptop. Had just bought a new Hitachi 1 TB drive to replace the measly 250 GB one and needed a new case to hold it while I mirrored the contents of the old drive to it. Can't fault this - well made and easy to open. The cable supplied also works well and I copied my drive over in good time despite my laptop having only USB 2.0.The supplier PJP Electronics were speedy and while there were no instructions, opening the case and inserting a drive were child's play. If you do get stuck, hold the case in both hands with the logo on the face away from you and place your thumbs just below the joint line which is near the end where the cable is attached. Press down firmly and then slide the back down towards you. A 2.5 inch drive fits snugly (disks rattle around in the old caddies I have but this is much better).

Don’t normally review my purchases, but I’m so happy with this that I thought I would.I purchased this specifically to use with my Xbox One as an external drive. I had recently purchased an SSD drive for a laptop, so I had a spare laptop 1tb drive.Delivery was next day, thanks to Prime. Enclosure is compact, well made, and installation is as a simple as changing batteries in a remote control - slide the back off, insert the hard drive, slide the back on.Plugged it into my Xbox One, which instantly recognised it. This now replaces my external full size Seagate Expansion USB drive, and doesn’t require an additional power source.

Can't fault the seller.Item was packaged well and looks like the images, the product itself looks cool, it's all plastic and the blue colouring is vibrant. The screw-less fitting is easy and the HDD fits well into the area with a snug fit to the SATA connectors and the space for the HDD to fit.Niggles:1. The cable is Approx 30cm end to end, this is "par for course". on most cheaper USB3.0 devices but would have liked it twice as long. It will reach to all USB ports on a laptop and probably small desktop tower, On my Corsair Obsidian Tower it will not reach some of the USB ports if I sit the Case on the top of the tower which is where such things would normally go but for the price I can forgive the shortness.

Simple plastic caddy which slides open and into which you insert the disk drive. My drive I had removed from a broken laptop. Replace the cover, connect the supplied USB cable to another computer. Open the "Computer" window on the laptop and there is the drive ready for me to transfer the important files I wanted to retrieve. Easy, cheap and elegant solution to my problem. You don't need a computer degree to use this and the added bonus is I now have a portable drive if I ever need one.

I purchased this product to repurpose an old laptop hardrive that I had recovered from a broken laptop, and allowed me to turn it into a storage device for recording tv on/ keeping mediaSo far so good and is working wellHowever, this may seem a little nitpicky but the led light when the hardrive is on is a little too bright, as I have found that when using at night to plug into my tv the light shines quite brightly and can be a little annoying with the flashing going on in the background behind the tv.Despite that, great and worth the money

Tool free slide open insert drive slide shut connect cable to drive & pc , found drive powering on & off due to defective cable . Works well with a quality cable. If you are buying this item then buy a quality cable, I brought 2 of them & both cables were defective

I had a few spare hard drives laying around which I wanted to utilise. I bought one of these caddies to try out and as soon as I tested it I bought another one. One is used as a network drive (plugged into my router) and the other is a small drive which contains windows iso images. I will be purchasing 2 more of these for my other drives. Much cheaper than buying a ready made external drive.
