Some great points and perspectives, but rambles on at times and is probably longer than it needed to be
“Sun Stand Still” is Steven Furtick’s call to Christians to unlock their potential by believing that God is ready, willing, and able to do the unimaginable in their lives. He bases his assertions on personal experiences, experiences in the lives of his church members, and on biblical examples such as Joshua (the basis for the title to the book). This is the first book that I’ve read by Furtick, but I am very familiar with him. I listen to the Elevation Church podcast regularly and I thoroughly enjoy Steven’s heart and passion as a speaker. He’s absolutely one of the most gifted presenters that I’ve ever heard. He’s also involved in their worship ministry and has written or co-written several of the more popular worship songs that have come out of the Elevation worship group.Furtick’s book opens strong. The begining of the book is filled with highlighter-worthy quotes that will leave you pondering them long after you’ve moved on to the next chapter. There is no shortage of bulletin board one liners here. Two of my favorite ones were:“….if you ever encounter a theology that doesn’t directly connect the greatness of God with your potential to do great things on his behalf, it’s not biblical theology. File it under Heresy.”And“if the size of your vision for your life isn’t intimidating to you, there’s a good chance it’s insulting to God.”These are powerful and profound statements and Furtick excels at this, not just in this book but also while he’s preaching. It’s one of the things that make him so exciting and engaging to listen to. My issue with the book is that it seems to me that Furtick had a really great idea and point, but didn’t really have enough material to fill an entire book. This would have made a great Sunday morning sermon (and probably did). It would have made a great little set of worksheets for a small group bible study (and probably did). But I can’t help but feel like it falls short as a book. There is too much unnecessary “filler” material and repeating of points to get the book long enough to call it a book. Where in the beginning I was soaking up every line and enjoying the encouragement and fresh perspective, through the middle I found myself reading just to finish the book.Another area that I think Furtick excels at in his speaking but might have fallen a little short in this book is in his way of using his language choices to relate to people. The book opens with Furtick talking about how amazed he is that Elevation church held a worship service in the same arena where he had seen the band U2 play a couple of years before. Later on he makes some cultural references to things (such as Nintendo’s WII video game system). Even in the write up blurb for the book on the Amazon home page, two statements he makes about the book are: “This book is not a Snuggie”. “The words on these pages will not go down like Ambien”. And while all of those references make perfect sense to me and anyone else reading the book today, I just wonder if it will affect the potential longevity of the book as far as potential future readers are concerned. I recently read a book by the late D.L Moody. The book was written before 1900, and yet it was as fresh and powerful for me as it was for people the day it was published. I just have to wonder if Furtick’s choice of examples, phrases, and word choices will hinder future generations from being able to connect with it.I think some of the book is excellent. I think more of the book is pretty good. But unfortunately I think a lot of the book is just ok and kinda rambles on. I still love listening to Furtick and I would read him again, and while I think there were some excellent points made in the book, I think overall this one is just OK. I give it three out of five.

A must read!
What an awesome book! As mature Christians we can often fall into complacency instead of believing God for amazing miracles. This book reminds us we serve a living working God and He can do what we would consider impossible. I ordered this book with a bunch of other women from my church and we made our own book study. It is great to read alone and works as a discussion starter. I highly recommend this book to anyone with eyes to read with! I enjoy writing reviews. A great read to challenge the believer
I came to this book, having stumbled on Steven Furtick's YouTube videos a few years ago while researching other popular ministries. He is an amazing speaker, probably the best of this generation. And he has grown greatly as a preacher, and as a person in the 10 years since this book was written. Just compare his early videos to the work he does now. There has been an amazing transformation.Pastor Furtick has been the man of the hour during the 2020 pandemic, continuing his weekly services by live stream with an empty building. His inspiring messages have become a beacon of light for a panic stricken world.I purchased Sun Stand Still back in 2017, and it sat in a pile of books I was planning to read someday, until about a week ago.I am no stranger to believing God for some pretty big things, and seeing Him come through for me. But this book has inspired me to let God into some of the nooks and crannies of my life.Steven Furtick opens up in this book about parts of his life rarely mentioned in sermons. One of his grandfathers was a preacher, and one was an alcoholic who took his own life. Steven's father was also an alcoholic who finally gave his life to the Lord when Steven was in his late teens, and never took another drink. His grandmother developed Alzheimer's and spent the last 12 years of her life in a nursing home, sometimes screaming obscenities at family members she no longer recognized. His life has not been quite as perfect as it seems on the surface, although he admits he was a virgin on his wedding day.As I said, this is a book about real faith. My plan is to go back to page one with a Bible handy, and delve more deeply into the scriptures. This book is highly recommended, whether you are going through major challenges, or just dealing with everyday life. The original Sun stand still videos from 2010 are still available on Youtube and they are highly recommended as well. They are brief films that expand on the content of the book, and bring the book into the realm of everyday life.

Stunned......
I was cautious about buying this book at first. I thought it was just another "Go get em tiger!" book. I had been losing faith that what I have been believing for and had asked God for, was nothing more than a fantastic pipe dream. Joshua's story was the one story that had led me to what I asked God for a long time ago. This book solidified my belief in my dream by reminding me that He wants to guide me to where I want to be. My Joshua Plan has been confirmed. Thanks Steven. This work has made a tremendous impact on my life. One day you will understand how. Time to get to work.....

This Will Increase Your Faith
I was captivated by the title of this powerful book not knowing what to expect. It turned out to be a dynamite. 'Sun Stand Still' is a must read for every Christian who wants to do the impossible. Written in simple and excellent English, this book is also full of humour. I could relate to the writer. Without Faith it is impossible to please God! This book will fire up your faith in the God of impossibilities. God of Joshua still makes the Sun Stand Still for any believer that dares to ask. Thanks Pastor Steven Furtick for allowing yourself to be used by the Holy Spirit to write this book.Highly Recommended!!

A book that allows you to be specific with your calling and to make steps towards it
This book has allowed me to be specific with what I feel God wants me to do. The book is very balanced with scripture and real life examples which helps the reader relate. It allows you to test your calling according to scripture. It doesn't let the "ordinary" believer off the hook and expects everyone to see God's work within them and through them.

Faith has no boundaries
Excellent ... Another step along the way to realising that thereare no limits on God, only those we impose on Him ..How easy it is to read of the exploits of faith by those in the bible yethow far short we come in the present day .. God is no different nowthan He was then .. Time to step out ...
