Really nice read through on a wide variety of perennials
Really nice read through on a wide variety of perennials.ConsI don’t know if it’s an error in printing or if it’s just this book. But all my pages are unnumbered, which makes jumping to a section somewhat time consuming. I need to find each chapter myself & then the page I’m looking for.Other than that one issue overall I’m happy with the information in this book and would recommend it to people just starting out or that would like a little more knowledge on perennials.

Flowers and vegetables that keep coming back
Perennial Gardening by Susan HollisterReally enjoy this book because it has flowers that I grow every year. Some I was unsure of how to care for so I would just leave them in the ground year round and they do great.Chop them all down to ground level in the late fall-after the first snow so stems can take nutrients from the soil to be able to come up the following year.Love how some are spread in the air-that explains how one plant got way over to the other side of the garden. Also listings of perennial vegetables-which I grow a few of, including lavender. Has a section on flowering bulbs and how to care for them. Herbs and grasses are other chapters.Great resource book. Wish there were pictures to accompany the item being discussed. Section on berries also. And a section on design and what to consider when making your template of the area you want to transform.Section on potted perennials and how to plant them near something that will help pollinate them.Care and maintenance is also discussed and what the important things about any perennial. Bonus chapter is about when you bring them indoors. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.A KEEPER!

Great Guide to Perennial Gardening and Its Benefits
I am working on improving my green thumb and know quite a bit about annual plants, but do not know much about perennial gardening. I didn’t know that there were so many different kinds of perennial plants. There are perennials for vegetables, flowers, grasses, shrubs, foliage, bulbs, herbs, fruits and berries, etc. For all of these the author did a great job addressing what they are and how to plant them. The book also discussed how to care and maintain a perennial garden indoors and outdoors. With the sun shining and the warmer temperatures arriving, I am definitely going to look into planting a perennial garden. This book makes it easy for anyone to plant their own perennial garden, even a novice green thumb gardener like myself.

Disappointed
No color pictures to use as a reference guide. Everything is in black and white. The printing is not good quality.

Black and white
There are numerous photos, but they are in black and white. Color would have been much more helpful.

Perennial Gardening - enjoy your beautiful garden!
‘Perennial Gardening’ by Susan Hollister is a worth to read guide about many different kind of bulbs, flowers, herbs and vegetables. They are very valuable plants but also need to be properly maintained. Susan shows how to looking after your plants to have wonderful garden year by year. I especially love hostas with beautiful, rich leaves but I just hate when slugs eaten them. I don’t try to spread sand around it, but it looks simple and more natural than blue pellets that I really afraid because kids and animals can accidentally taste. Also I never know that I shouldn’t cut dried steams of tulips as they may never grow again. So I won’t do it anymore. Susan gives very practical advices also what to do with perennial herbs, how to cut them and what are they favourite position. I love natural medicine so always have herbs in my garden but sometimes they just too poor and have insects on them. I am looking for more books by Susan Hollister about gardening and how to naturally prevent plants from aphides, slugs and others insects.I just can’t wait for spring time to prepare my garden that will be even more excited with Susan’s e-book.

Totally Useless for VISUAL Encouragement,.
The Photography in this publication, is the very worst I have ever seen in any of the many Gardening booke I have purchased over the years. The picture - in Black and White, are Blurred and Totally obscure in several plates. THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR A BEGINNER< OR A GARDENER SEEKING VISUAL ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALTER THE APPEARANCE OF THEIR ESTABLISHED GARDEN> DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY .

Perennial Gardening is a delight.
I love perennial gardening and plants. This book was a delight. It covers an immense variety of ideas and suggestions and I had never thought about using vegetables as border plants but there are some fantastic suggestions. Susan Hollister has a fresh approach and gives detailed tips without becoming a bore. She gives suggestions on planning and layout and even has a section on therapeutic gardening that caters for sight, smell, sound and touch. There are also sections on grasses and foliage plants that are really interesting and using Asparagus as an ornamental is something I will try in the future. Well done Susan Hollister. This book is superb.
