They say not to judge a book by its' cover, I think normally the implication is that what's on the inside is much more appealing. In this case, unfortunately for me and the people who spent gas and time delivering it, this book is the opposite. The cover is appealing, because of course my favorite color is yellow and don't we all look for ourselves in our literary pleasures?What's on the inside is the worst. I kept looking for a page that didn't make me want to puke but I couldn't find one."Is it really so wrong for two lost people to meet in the dead of night and make their own light?" or something like that...ugh! YES. It's terribly codependent. The only thing that's right about it is that those two people are no longer f*ing up the dating pool with their woeful self pity."Not only do I love you to forget being alone..." OY! Whatever comes after that is...just. Ugh. Whyyyyy!?Then, I thought--well maybe she dies at the end and that's why the title says "WAS"...but no. At least that would be entertaining. But no, his sign off is something like, "May you all be as lucky as I am to find a love like mine." Listen, after reading about how miserable you are in 3-4 line poems for about 60 seconds I would never wish that on a soul.Luckily Amazon will let me return it. I'm glad I'll get my money back but I can never unsee what I have seen today.

Holmes describes all aspects of love in his poems flawlessly. Anyone who is or has ever been in love, or just has someone they long to be with, can pick up this book and find something to latch on to and relate to. Holmes' word choice is meticulate, and he does a great job of speaking directly to the readers' hearts. Speaking as a writer, this book has given me more than enough inspiration for my own poetry.

if you're into mainstream poetry like Rupi Kaur, you might like this. If you like actual poetry, I'd stay away.

This has to now be my favorite book. The way he talks about her just made my heart melt. As soon as I picked it up, i couldn’t put it down until it was over.

They are not even poems it’s just short notes of how how much he loved her. No stanza or anything empowering.

Very short, also it was very repetitive and it felt like lazy poetry, like something someone would write in an instagram caption. I was very excited to read it but i was disappointed, extremely corny and too simple, feels like anyone could write these "poems" and make a book. Just blah.

i was looking for poetry books that were love themed and had good reviews. i was planning to order a few, and give one to my best friend/girl i’m in love with as one of her christmas gifts. Her favorite color happens to be yellow, so naturally i clicked on this book when i saw the title. i saw it had pretty damn good reviews, so i figured it would be perfect. i actually ordered two, so that i could read it while she was reading it and we could compare our favorites when we were both finished. when the book arrived at my house, i decided to flip through the first few pages. right away i noticed how short the poems were. now instead of flipping through the first few pages in order to get a feel for the writers style, i needed to flip through about 20 pages. the second thing i noticed is how simple the poems were, and not in a good way. as i kept reading them, i quickly decided that i am a better poet than this guy, and that most of his work is short, corny, and does not make you feel anything, as you would hope/expect a romantic poem to do. i still gave it to her, but i explained pretty much exactly what i wrote in this review to her right after she unwrapped it haha. i didn’t want her thinking i thought these poems were deep and meaningful, because they just simply aren’t... anyways, we laughed about it and decided we’d still both read them and mark the ones we thought stood out from all the 5th grade level poems and then compare our “favorites,” or should i say, the ones we didn’t think sucked. would not recommend, even as a gift for a girl you love who’s favorite color is yellow.

I adored this book so much! It was so full of love and raw emotion! The only thing to you Mr. Holmes WHY IS THE COVER NOT YELLOW

Beautiful selection of poems, I've gotten it for my girlfriend for our anniversary (her favourite colour IS yellow) and highlighted parts that made me think of her and annotated it with my own little love notes and memories from our time together.HOWEVER, there was a slight misprint (pictured) and a word is repeated on page 10. It says "for my whole my life", instead of what I assume is meant to be "for my whole life".This is such a small issue though, and if the person you're getting this for really cares that much, they're probably not the right person for you.

I bought it because my favourite colour is yellow, so i was overjoyed that i had a book about me ;), i loved it!! Highly recommend to my friends and to you!

It was a pleasant read but not worth £10. It is a book of quotes not poems. Some pages have a couple of words or a single 'X'. Get the free kindle edition; don't waste your money on paperback. Felt a little robbed.

Great book

i’m a poet who’s only published work is on wattpad even thigh i’d love more, and this, this has gave me hundreds of lines of inspiration. it’s beautiful. it cannot be put into words and edgar holmes is now my hero, as he is a genius.
