Every Girl/Woman should read this
Wow.This is a very informative book. Thank you! I have never seen anyone so clearly lay out the various different causes and types of PCOS, and I have read nearly everything I can find on it from ncbi to medical textbooks. Dr. Briden clearly has a deep understanding of the female endocrine system, and I'm very grateful that she took the time to share it with us. I wish that I had read this book when I was a young teen, so that I wouldn't have worried about some eventual fateful day when I wouldn't be able to have kids due to PCOS, but would have focused on assisting my body in its natural processes. I really cannot underestimate the impact of this knowledge. PCOS is not a disease, it's a collection of symptoms, and it is not even named properly. While I knew this before, I had seen no research that adequately broke down the actual causes of PCOS. My primary care provider has not even run an androgen test to properly diagnose the syndrome, and I have been sent off to fertility specialists that essentially reject me for treatment based on other criteria.I began with the chapters specific to my needs, and after I got through those, I went back to the beginning for a full read through. It's worth it. I wish every girl could read this book. With regards to the actual treatments, she's almost exclusively recommending supplements given her background as a naturopathic doctor. This makes me uncomfortable as I do not see statistical scientific evidence supporting many of the treatments suggested. In addition, homeostasis of the endocrine system is so complicated that it worries me to be adding these things to my diet without adequate monitoring. Even if I was monitored, I don't feel confident that my PCP would be able to monitor adrenals/electrolyte/nutrients/hormones correctly anyway, since it seems that no one is good at it, and it's fairly easy to cause damage to one or more systems. I guess I'm fairly sensitive to this topic right now since I'm watching a family member go through significant problems with finding a diagnosis for severe muscle spasms that have been ongoing for months without a diagnosis, even with monitoring of the above.Bottom line for me is: for now I will try Magnesium and Zinc, along with a Prenatal, Diabetic Nutrisystem for hyperinsulemia PCOS, and hope things even out soon. Thank you Dr. Briden.

Got my period back!
I've been having issues with my period for the past year. In fact, for the last 9 months, I've not had a period on my own, and my doctor has been having me take Progesterone tablets every three months to induce a period. She, as well as a second gyno I went to see, have had no explanation for me as to why this is happening and have wanted to put me on birth control. This bothers me to no end. First of all, I don't want to be on birth control, but I guess that is kind of besides the point. The main point is that my body is not doing what it is naturally meant to be doing, and it bothers me that none of the doctors I sought out have tried to find the root of the problem. So, after 9 months of taking the progesterone pills every 3 months, (so 3 medically induced periods for 9 months) I decided I had had enough. I came across this book and read a lot of good reviews and decided to give it a whirl. This book is very clear and easy to understand. She gives you a lot of options where supplements and new lifestyle choices are concerned. She also made it very clear that it would take three months to get my period back, because that is how long it takes for the follicle to mature. One of the supplements she talks about is Inositol and another is Vitex. I bought both, but decided to start off my first three months with a half dosage of the combination Inositol (the regular dosage is 4:1 and I took 2:0.5) and then if I still didn't get a period, I would try the vitex since that is apparently some really powerful stuff, but I wanted to try a more low key supplement first. I also want to mention that I was, at the time, taking 50 mg of Spironolactone a day, which this books states can make you miss periods. I decided I also wanted to wean myself off of that. I took the Inositol everyday for three months at half the dosage. As for my Spironolactone, I took it everyday like usual for a month, then switched to taking 50 mg every other day, and spreading it farther and farther apart until I stopped taking it altogether. I was pretty sure that, based around the time I started doing all of this, I "should" get my period sometime around May 7th, and had even marked that on my calendar. This morning, May 4th, I got my period naturally for the first time in almost a year. I haven't seen any negative side effects from the Inositol or stopping the Spironolactone, which I expected to make me break out, but I've been off of it for a month now and havent noticed anything. I am thoroughly impressed with this book and the approach behind it. She really focuses on fixing the root issue instead of sweeping it under the rug and going straight to birth control like the two doctors I went to. From this point forward, I think I will continue to take the Inositol for a few months, and then maybe down the line see if my body has been off the spironolactone long enough to have a period without Inositol, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see. If you've been struggling with period issues and don't know where to turn, this book is the answer. I would highly recommend this to all women.

Need to fix your period? Read this book!!!
Where do I begin.I LOVE this book and am SO happy I found out about it and purchased it. I am constantly re-reading different sections of it and many pages are dog-eared!! It is honestly the holy-grail of repairing your menstrual cycle. I wish I had this book years ago! Thanks to this book I’ve been supplementing magnesium glycinate 400 mg nightly for the last 2-3 months now along with sublingual vitamin B-12 and they’ve made a HUGE difference in my cycle. I am without breast tenderness, moodiness, cravings, and the best part: my period is becoming more regular. I have a history of hyperthyroidism and had RAI done about a year and a half ago so am now on thyroid replacement hormone. Once the wonkiness with regulating my thyroid settled down I was really able to concentrate and repair my poor body that was just trying to do its thing. From this book I learned how to fix my body - even items I should be eating / not eating. I also chart my BBT / Cervical fluid and this is extremely helpful in the repair of your period (although I personally knew about was educated on FAM/BBT/cervical fluid charting before reading this book) which this book does touch upon!I can’t recommend this book enough!!! If you love your body and are interested in your own health and well-being / reproductive system, I HIGHLY recommend this book. You won’t regret buying it. Great for people with PCOS, thyroid disorders, Endo, etc!!!
