Not what I expected.

A good overview by a very knowledgeable scholar practitioner of Buddhism, probably one of the first serious Western Buddhist lay practitioner scholars who speaks from a deep knowledge of the classic Buddhist texts but also self cultivation of meditation. Conze is not to be overlooked.

If you are interested in the practice, start here.Is not too simple or too complicated.One of the best.

If you are a Westerner, once you have a regular meditation practice established and are ready for a more detailed description about Buddhism then this is the best book I have ever come across. Emptiness is going beyond phenomena and while that has to be a very personal journey this book gives you sign posts and a map. If you only buy one book about Buddhism make it this one.
