Sammons Preston Pill Splitter For Cutting Small Pills or Large Pills In Half

This is a simple, straightforward pill splitter that works exactly as it should. I purchased it in 2021 for a little over five dollars, which felt like a great deal for the quality. I’m only getting around to reviewing it now, and I see the price has nearly doubled. At ten dollars I’m not sure I’d rush to buy it again, but at the price I paid it was well worth it. Reliable, easy to use, and no unnecessary extras.

It cuts pills. Not much else to say, it really does it well. I like the small reservoir in the bottom portion that lets me keep multiple halves together so I can count how many I have / need for placing in my pillbox. My only complaint would be that sometimes there are tiny fragments shaved off the cut, so the halves are not quite even. Not sure if that's just the pill itself not cutting correctly, or the blade not being sharp enough. Either way, it happens maybe 1 out of 20 pills and I don't feel it's a detractor. I've included an amazing action shot.

This thing is SO much better than I expected. I spent half an afternoon reading reviews on so many different versions and brands of these simple things, and the dozens of choices for these can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are not feeling good to begin with; but I can honestly say this beats the 3 others I had tried hands down. The little "flexible" V-shaped things that hold the pill in place make all the difference, and so far, in just 6 days I have used it almost a dozen times, and the cuts have been clean and perfect and EASY and SMOOTH, without having to force it or finesse it in any way, every single time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, sometimes, the simplest things can be the hardest to get right, and this one definitely gets it right.

Best pill splitter i have ever found. Perfect. Splits pills quickly, easily, cleanly. I had been using the same apex carex model pill splitter for many years and recently bought this apex carex model that is slightly larger because the arthritis in my hands and wrists has worsened leaving me lots of pain and weakness in my hands. My right hand was really painful tonight and i needed to split a fairly large pill. I took my new apex carex pill splitter out of the wrapper and quickly and easily cut that hard pill into four clean same size pieces. I love this pill splitter. And the price cant be beat.

This is the best pill cutter for tiny pills. It is sharp and works much better than the expensive specialty pill cutter I ordered before.

This pill splitter works well - it uses a blade to cut the pill rather than a hard plastic rod to shear through score lines. The guides are flexible, allowing you to position the pill how you want. I didn't realize this right away and did not accurately cut until I figured this out. However, the blade is slightly offset from center so it can make it difficult to cut precisely. The blade doesn't reach all the way through the pill when the lever is fully depressed, leaving a thin skin that stays attached and you have to separate them. If you tilt the splitter down after cutting, the cut pill slides into the reservoir at the bottom. This reservoir is a good size to reach in with your fingers.

I ordered this when my doctor reduced my daily pill to one-half a pill daily. She said it was perfectly fine to cut it in half. Life is just too short to spend my time trying to exactly center a pill exactly in half (not all pills come with that little indentation). The price was right and I'm so glad to have it. Works great and doesn't leave scattered gains of "crushed pill" so I know I'm getting the total half. The mini-razor blade is extremely sharp so please keep it away from inquisitive little hands. I don't know how long the razor blade will retain its sharpness, but when it stops doing the job, I'll just order another one. I highly recommend it.

I have had the same pill cutter since 1997 and just recently its blade started to fail and it wasn't cutting the pills with the same precision as it had done so in the past. I wasn't sure that I would be able to get the same quality pill cutter, let alone the same brand but Amazon came through as always. This pill cutter is so good that I am able to cut even small round pills into 4 pieces. And all pieces wind up the same size. Very hard to do that with other pill cutters. The trick with this pill cutter is to put it on a table or counter for example and not to use too much pressure because this will crush the pill. To keep those little pill bits secure when cutting the second time; I hold the blade lightly onto the 1/2 pill that I plan to 1/4 so that it doesn't move before I put the cutter on the counter to split the pill. As you can see by the attached photo that I received the blue one instead of the opaque one. Ironically, I got the same exact pill cutter that I have had for 20 years because mine was blue and also looked just like the one I just received.
