VF-1 Valkyrie Weapon Set (Plastic model) Hasegawa Macross 1/72

Great bang (no joke intended :) for the buck and the model alike
I build SF models by the metric ton (grumbles my wife), and in the main I build in 1/72 scale so my spaceships can play with my Zoids and Z-Knights, ha-hah. You can find weapons packs for standard stuff, like modern-day military jets, in that scale, but SF stuff is harder to find, now that the Zoids Customize Parts line has disappeared forever (*sob*). Usually if you see a weapon you like you have to buy another kit and then cripple it using its weapons elsewhere. This is at least _something_ to plug that gap. Hasegawa continues to amaze me with the sheer detail and crispness of their models and parts, and this weapons pack is no different. It says that it's a weapons set for the Valkyries, of Macross fame, but honestly, you can use it with anything in that or near-that scales. (Seriously. You could make one of those wimpy 1/144-scale Gundams look more like the Big Robot On Campus with these. :)What you get in the box: two (identical) sprues in white of plastic, instructions in black-and-white(-and-japanese), and a small sheet of waterslide decals (which, yes, has a line on it saying VF-1 VALKYRIE WEAPON SET, but you're not seriously going to put _that_ on your model, are you?). The sprues have the parts for several weapon sets, and two small Macross-style pilots (and instructions--Step 1--for modifying the cockpit of the Valkyrie you're installing the pilot in) . The weapons are the UUM-7 Micro Missile Pod (a five-up missile pod, two of those per sprue), AMM-1 Missiles (a three-up missile pod, two per sprue), and RMS-1 Reactor Bombs (single-cylinder Big Busters, three per sprue). There's a chart on the front page bottom of the instructions showing where the various parts can fit together, and on the back page of the instructions is an illustration showing possible deployment patterns for the various weapons; play your cards right and you might have two Valkyries worth of deployables. :)The pilots as well are nicely molded, but as I remarked elsewhere, "1/72-scale" seems to convey different things to different manufacturers. Between three Japanese and American makers of models, I have something like six different sized "1/72-scale" pilots or crew, none of which match up. On the reasonably regular scale, the pilot figures here are either large children or fairly small adults. Use them with caution. The weapons, though, can be attached to any other ship (like Pegasus' _Apollo 27_, where on my own models they work nicely). They don't look as impressive hung on Zoids or Z-Knights just because those are Big And Bulky 1/72 and the Valkyries are all Lean And Mean (And Delicate) 1/72. I'm seriously considered ordering another set--they're cheaper through Amazon now than they were fifteen years back from anime specialty shops--just to build a support grav-tank around 'em.Really recommend this one to fellow 1/72-scale modelers, and wish Hasegawa or _someone_ would come up with more stuff like this. <frustrated_face> :)
