Hidden Kitchens of Sri Lanka Hardcover – November 1, 2014

So happy with this fantastic book. My husband is remembering his youth there looking at the beautiful pictures of the whole island, areas he hasn't seen since leaving the country over 45 yrs ago. The recipes are very authentic and pictures make your mouth water. The stories with the recipes make this so much more than just a cookbook. This book will make great gifts for any Sri Lankan living abroad.

I love Sri Lankan food, have been cooking it for a number of years. But this is not the book for me. Perhaps it is a true reflection of Sri Lankan kitchens, but it left me cold. Nice photos, but the recipes presented here seem almost like a randomly chosen selection. Too bad, the cuisine of Sri Lanka is amazing. I'd recommend "Rice & Curry: Sri Lankan Home Cooking" if you really want to get into this food. I've cooked nearly every recipe from this particular book and am totally hooked!

The pictures and recipes together tell us a wonderful story.

Brilliant cookbook! I love all the stories behind the dishes. From all the regions of Sri Lanka and you learn about the culture as you go through the book. Beautiful photographs of delicious curries, breads and different rice dishes and the people behind their creations.

There are some nice photos, but Sri Lankan is so photogenic that is not hard to achieve. But I didn't learn much and am not sure how much Ms Hutchins really knows about food or Sri Lanka. The book was sponsored by a charity and I found the repeated praise for the organisation irritating.

Bought 4 sets of these so far and all love them.

Fabulous book. Well written and with lots of fabulous pictures that make me miss Sri Lanka. The book is well set out by region, ethnicity, and then of course the authors favourites. I must mention that some of the recipes are off the beaten track and therefore very appealing!

Great insight into Sri Lankan kitchens and cookery throughout the island. The photographs of the dishes make you want to eat the pages. The background information makes it easier to understand the Sri Lankan ethos of showing love and friendship through the making and giving of food.
