How to be an Illustrator

Purchased for my daughter who is an artist and illustrator

This book makes a lot of practical things clearer, especially for the stereotypical artists with their heads in the clouds.

great book, great information, would recommend it to any artist or illustrator.

Darrel Rees shows off his middle-brow authorial voice in what I would describe as a frankly admonishing How-To.I’ve spent too much time trying to reconcile with the grumpy, boring, uninteresting, uninterested Darrel Rees to make any information I could possibly glean from his masturbatory half-memoir worth the price.Buy a book by a better artist like Charles Bargue or James Gurney.

Not sure this will get too much use, I find it difficult to follow and may find a different professional path.

I found this book very helpful. Since the business of illustration relies so much on self-promotion, it's good to have tips on how to bolster your portfolio, articulate your strengths, and navigate the industry. If you are a recent or soon-to-be graduate, this is a fantastic book to build your confidence for job interviews. For those interested in beefing up on your skills, I would recommend  The Technical Pen  if you work with pen and ink and  Drawing the Female Figure  for great anatomical drawing instruction.

Not very approachable, as is the art world

I loved the book and it came a day before. It is a book made for future illustrators, where the path is shown from the sketches election to the search for an agent to represent you.It arrived in very good condition and the cost was lower than my country Mexico.

The media could not be loaded.  This book consist of quite a lot of text compare to picture samples. It teach you step by step of how to. I like the interview part of many great illustrators where I could glean the wisdom from. Good book to read if you want to be an illustrator.
