X-Large Lens Magnifier Floor Lamp for Reading - 40 Super-Bright SMD Lights

I love this lamp. I got it to use for the intricate detail work of ventilating for human hair lace wigs. The holes in the lace are very tiny and the true lighting from the LED lights make it very easy to see every little detail. I don't mind the height of the lamp since I'm a tall woman and my ergonomic chair is the perfect height for my work table, therefore the height of the light when I have to bend the neck is just fine. I even used it next to my bed when I was doing some ventilating.My only complaint about the light is the base. It's pretty heavy, but depending on how far you bend the neck it will tip over. I'm still trying to do a McGuyver and figure out how to prevent that from happening...LOL So if anyone reading this has any suggestions please respond to this review.

I purchased this for my mother who has moderate age-related dry macular degeneration. She had been trying to read using a hand-held magnifying glass, her prescription glasses weren't strong enough,and her eyes would tire after just a few minutes. I found this magnifier lamp on Amazon and figured it was worth a try. It was definitely worth it! The lens is of high optical quality and allows her to see an entire page without moving the magnifier or the book. The built-in 60-LED illuminator is bright enough for her to see the print clearly without eyestrain. Now she can comfortably read newspapers, books, and magazines for as long as she likes. She can also see clearly enough to thread a needle for mending or sewing, something she hasn't been able to do for a long time.Before ordering I was concerned this lamp might need to be modified so it could be positioned comfortably for reading. Other reviews had suggested this might be a concern. In my mother's case the magnifier works well without modification. She sits in a recliner when she reads, although she sits upright, not reclined. I mention this to let you know the relative height of her chair. Yes, you do need to bend the gooseneck down into an "s" curve to position the magnifier head. Once adjusted, all my mother needs to do is pivot the lamp head from the side to right in front of her lap to get it into position for reading. With the gooseneck mounting screw tightened slightly, the pivot from the side to in front of her (or vice-versa) is easy for her. I haven't had to shorten the height of the lamp post at all.Needless to say, she is thrilled with being able to read again! We are considering getting another for her to use in her reading spot downstairs. The base on the lamp is appropriately heavy, and not something one should plan on carrying up and down a flight of stairs multiple times a day.Great product!May 1, 2014 Update:My mother still loves the lamp! I just want to add a very positive review about the customer service I received from the vendor. Unfortunately we did encounter a problem with some of the LED's in the lamp shortly after Amazon's return window closed. (I believe this must be a very rare situation, as LED's typically last for years.) I contacted the vendor and they were very diligent in helping me resolve the issue. All of their contact with me was courteous and they were very responsive to my inquiries. I am pleased to say they resolved the situation in a professional manner and to my definite satisfaction. This is a vendor who stands behind their products. You can feel confident buying from them. I highly recommend this lamp!

This magnifier does exactly what it says. The magnification is very good. The lighting is very good. It is a quality itemThere is, however, a big drawback that I believe that the manufacturer needs to consider. It is very tall and the bendable adjustment isn't low enough. My elderly father in law couldn't use it while he was sitting in his chair, he could only use it while at the table.If this is OK for you, or if the person that needs it is very tall, then please purchase this. However, if the person that needs it is shorter or is sitting in a lounge chair, then please reconsider. You will have to return it because it isn't what you want. Which is exactly what I did.

This lamp was packaged very well. When I opened the box, there was a hand written note attached to my lamp box. The lamp works great. I was looking for the washer it said to attach, but they already did it. I read the directions over looking at the pieces picture and follow what it said to do and it came together nicely. I am happy with this purchase. Bought for elderly family member who has vision problems that cannot be corrected 100% with eyeglasses. This has helped tremendously. It has a large glass magnifier with bright lighting. The switch us easily accessible. It is in the tall side, and even with the bendavble neck on the pole stand, she has to tip it towards her to use it, but we've situated it so it won't topple on her. It has a heavy base. Nonetheless, it's given her the ability to read her bills, letters, the newspaper, cards. So we'd buy it again.

I purchased this for my 86 year old Mom who has vision problems. The magnifier is glass therefore is VERY HEAVY - but it also provides CRISP, CLEAR magnification - which we have never found in the lighter plastic magnifiers. The LED lighting is also very helpful. Once you get the lens positioned where you want it - you can simply swing it out of the way when you aren't using it. I don't know how it would work if you were trying to use it free standing - I'd be afraid of it tipping over when you swing it away - happily we have a sturdy end table next to her chair and we have tied the pole to that - so we have no worries about it tipping. It seemed a little awkward when she first started using it - but now it seems totally natural for her to swing it over her lap when she wants to read - and away from her lap when she doesn't. The clarity and brightness of the magnified image are well worth what ever finagling you have to do to make it work for your situation!
