No 4k, just so you know
Every Blu Ray movie I put in this thing claims it is "corrupted". They work in every other blu ray player I use in my house, and there are no smudges or scratches, pristine. Also, will not even read 4k, claims there is no disc in the drive. I am using the latest PowerDVD in a VR computer. I am a little at a loss here. My bios does see this as an HP BD-RE drive so I'm confident it could at least start writing a blu ray disc, but I'm not as confident in it finishing. I will update when I find out. It seemed to read DVD's fine but I didn't try playing video. I'm just not interested in making my 4k tv work that hard to upscale 480p, not to mention the sound. If I didn't have alternatives to this, it would definitely be going back and still might.

Did not work
Would not write to DVD's, tried different types of DVD's, I just tried to play DVD's, would not play on my MSI Gaming computer, when I ordered it, was advertised as 4K capable, would not read 4K video, would not play BluRay video, could view the BluRay video files, but would not play them, kept ejecting the 4K video disks.Got a response from the seller to buy additional software. So I bought the recommended software $108.00 to view the movies, and another $53.00 to write files, this was in addition to the $109.00 that I had paid for this optical drive. $270.00 invested, and still not able to watch 4K movies on my 4K gaming laptop, and only some BluRay movies will play.I do not recommend this optical drive, it advertises 4K but did not play 4K.

Couldn't Get It To Play 4 K discs
It appears that you need to buy extra software to get this device to play a 4 K Blue ray disc. Even after I bought the software, I was unable to get the device to work on my computer. This need was not made clear when I ordered the player. I had to send the drive back for refund.

Defective
I was excited to use this product for viewing and burning DVDs and BDs, but mine came with the ability to view DVDs and has no other features. It is less functional than the $20 Dell DVD reader/writer I bought around 5 months ago. I am returning it and never looking back.
