The Dhabas Of Amritsar Paperback – 1 January 2014

My plan to go to Amritsar on a culinary adventure was stopped when the Indo-Pak kerfuffle happened. So I bought this book instead. It turned out to be an inspired alternative! A superb collection of Amritsari recipes that I look forward to eating off in the months ahead . . . when it will be safe to meet the originators in Amritsar.

Looking at the book after I visited Amritsar, I was really excited to see recipes from some of the dhabas I'd visited. I'd loved the bainga bharta at Bhravan ka dhaba, and when I saw the recipe in the book I decided to make it. But it is nothing like what I ate. So I don't know how authentic the recipes are. However it's a great insight into the dhabas in Amritsar.

Nicely written book- in fact it made me feel like I was there- shame the author didn’t include more recipes from bhravan da dhaba - their pickles and other dishes were amazing - I wish there were more vegetarian recipes and other basics - even some recipes taken from the Langar at harmander sahib would have added -He could have included a basic map of Amritsar where the Dhabas are located to help visitors find the place when they next visit
