Good plans
Received book today. Well drawn plans are given in compact book with advanced and beginner projects. I'll be making an advanced birdhouse from this book as a gift for a relative who asked for a more complex birdhouse. Some birdhouses remind me of doll houses I have made as gifts, and birdhouses don't have furniture to make.

Easy does Not mean for Beginners
This is a great book if you already know how to read drawings, but no step-by-step instruction are included in the individual plans. What it does have is a lot of great ideas and information, such as how to build a hinged pole to make cleaning easy and what size hole to bore for the type of bird you want to nest. The drawings illustrate how to make the birdhouses easy to clean and maintain, as well as dimensions for each part. If you have made at least half a dozen woodworking projects, you can make the "easy" birdhouses. If you are an intermediate level woodworker, you can make the "advanced" projects.

When appearances are your top concern...
This book has a lot of really fancy birdhouse designs for a relatively short list of species. If you're more interested in function than appearances, the 'easy' designs that are included at the end of the book are useful, but no more extensive as far as species applicability is concerned.

Good little plan book for bird houses.
This little book has a nice assortment of plans for birdhouses for many of the common birds found in North America, like the purple martin, wren, bluebird, robin, woodpecker, etc. it also includes a few plans for bird feeders. I've made a few bluebird houses and the plans were excellent and easy to follow. There are plans for elaborate bird houses for experienced woodworkers and simple plans for beginners.

Making Birdhouses Easy and Advanced Projects by Gladstone Califf
This book has 79 pages, is about 6.25" high by 8.75' wide. It has 34 different drawings for "advanced project" birdhouses and 18 additional drawings for "easy" to build birdhouses. These drawings provide adequate dimensions and information that a person familiar with woodworking could build each birdhouse. I like the easy to build designs better because they look more traditional, some of the advanced designs are a little more unusual and more decorative. Besides these individual drawings, it covers general topics related to building birdhouses like: Essentials of a Birdhouse, Finishing Birdhouses, Don'ts for Birdhouse Builders, Ventilation, Cleaning, etc. Besides drawings for Wren, Bluebird, and Martin houses (as well as houses for many other types of birds), it has a paragraph or two on the size and important features of houses for these birds.

Not for me?
If you have problems with your eye sight don’t bother with this, the font is hard to see clearly without a magnifying glass. The book is limited to a limited number of birds great if you have them in your area, yes they could be adapted for different birds so would have been nice for hole sizes for these, has many ways of hanging boxes but not enough of where to put them or more importantly where not to.It may suit some people but not for me,I am an experienced wood worker and have seen a lot better.

What a wonderful choice of birdhouses.
Some really good birdhouse information, I am looking forward to using the information, and build some awesome birdhouses, I am a keen gardener and wildlife watcher.I live on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool canal, which is great for me, and my family, to enjoy all the birds and wildlife around here.Thank you Gladstone Califf.Thank you Amazon.

a good book for wet weekends
bought this book to entertain myself during those wet winter days when you cant really do much. so far haven't yet done any task out of it due to my overloaded work shed.for what i have seen of this book is quite easy to understand the drawings and the tasks seem easy enough to complete. they start fairly easy even for a newbie in woodworking and go as far as some exquisite tasks.the only slight downside of this book is the measuring which is in imperial, which can be a bit daunting for those who only work in metric.

First Published 1924! Hairy Woodpeckers????
Many good plans, however drawings are in very small scale. Varieties of birds covered quite limited unless you have Martins, Bluebirds, Wrens and, yes, the famous Hairy Woodpeckers (not common in France, we have the feathered variety...). Worth buying for the author's name alone - Gladstone Califf. He seems to dislike poor old sparrows.
