very wide
i doubt these are carbon. feels like a strong flexible plastic but it'll do the job nonetheless.i ordered the size 12 for a pair of size 12 nike sb janoskis at 30cm. the insoles were very large in the forefoot, midfoot, and heel for my shoe. The length was good but required lots of trimming on the sides to fit in the shoes which was not easy. I used plier cutters and it required two hands to cut consistently. Im not sure if ordering a size down would have fixed the width, but id consider it if i were to order these again.the insoles do a good job of stiffening the shoes. I got these for mountain biking in flat shoes to stop my toes from hanging off the front of the pedals if i hit a rock with the pedals, and i have yet to have that happen. However, i think there are cheaper options for what they are.

Good for big toe pain
I am a 49 year old female, size 7.5 shoe. I bought a size 7 plate. I have had intermittent but worsening pain in my big toe, worse with prolonged walking. I've tried a Morton plate, which was really uncomfortable for me and didn't help. This plate seemed to be just the ticket. It is flexible enough that it didn't tear up my shoe and rigid enough to support my toe. I pull out the pad that comes in the shoe, put in the carbon plate and replace the pad over the plate. It makes the shoe a bit more snug, so be careful if you're wearing slim-fitting shoes. It's a flat plate, appropriate for an athletic shoe or flat boot. It is not made for a shoe with a heel. I've used it in a shoe with a 1" heel, max.Full disclosure: I happen to be an orthopedic surgeon. I tried this on my own. The orthotist I use recommended the Morton plate. This is a very useful item to have. I just ordered another pair to have on hand and will probably order more. Not because they wear out, but because I have several pair of regular-use shoes.I feel compelled to add (in response to another review) that the plates were neither plastic nor floppy. They are not rigid either. It's not intended (I don't think) to be a steel toe boot. I would describe it as springy.

These are just what the doctor wanted me to get. Stiff plate that goes the full length of your shoe.
