Hello, Animals!: Black and White Sparkler Board Book Board book – 17 May 2010

We bought this book together with 'hello bugs!', so please forgive me if I copy and paste the same review... It applies just the same!"We bought this (together with 'Hello Animals') for our 10 week old daughter and both books have been a great success. She is happy to stare at each page with their clear bold images for longer than I expected, and when you tilt the book you can make the flashes of foil colour sparkle for even more eye widening entertainment! The books are perfect for linking with songs, for example we sing 'There's a worm at the bottom of my Garden' when we get to the page with the worm, which even says 'wiggle wiggle' and 'Incy Wincy Spider' for the spider page, so there is plenty of scope to develop the fun.My only very slight reservation is the quality of the card book itself, the black edges were already slightly scuffed when it arrived and I can imagine that once she reaches the grabbing and sucking stage they could deteriorate rather quickly. That said, for first books to read together- fantastic!"

I borrowed this book from the library, as it looked interesting and I was considering buying it as a gift for a friend with a newborn. Undoubtedly, the high contrast images are great for capturing the attention of young babies, and I imagined that was the target audience. However, my 15 month old, who has long since outgrown black and white books, loves it too. The addition of flashes of colour on each page takes his interest and he enjoys pointing them out. But the inclusion of animal sounds on each page ("Hello Cow! Chew, moo") is the thing that he really loves, as he's starting to repeat animal sounds. As an adult, I think the pairs of images are stunning, with things like the snow in the sky behind the penguin matching the spots on the dog. These patterns and shapes might be something that I could talk about with my son as he gets older. So, I will be ordering this book as a gift for a newborn, but I'll also be ordering it - or perhaps another one in the series - for my toddler!

Good book for babies

Black and White books are excellent for very young babies, I have been buying them for friends and family for a few years and new mothers are always amazed at how much their babies enjoy them

She is only 2 months old but knows the sound hello and how to say it. This book is lovely to read to a newborn baby and has some lovely art work.

My 5 months old daughter loves it so much, the pictures are bold and bright, its so much better than other books!

Increíble primer libro, lo compré para mi bebé de 3 meses, lo utilizamos como "Flashing Cards" para su seguimiento y coordinación visual. Me encanta que sea de cartón grueso, los destellos metálicos llaman muchísimo su atención y las ilustraciones son muy tiernas. Sin duda un regalo que le durará por muchoa años.

Our daughter loves these books! We got them when she was 6 weeks and her eyes light up when she sees the snake and fish! It’s so cute! Will definitely be buying these as baby shower gifts!

The media could not be loaded.  Libretto cartonato di dimensioni contenute che stimola la vista dei neonati grazie al contrasto bianco e nero arricchito da particolari di colori ben visibili. Il cartonato è di buona fattura e ben consistente, non presenta odori strani che possano essere sgradevoli. Al bambino (3 mesi) è piaciuto subito anche perché si può dare la lettura di una storia ogni volta differente in base alle persone che lo leggono con lui. Consiglio l'acquisto a chi cerca un libretto versatile e tascabile, da portare con sé per stimolare il bambino anche quando non si è in casa.

Ich habe das Buch für mein 2 Monate altes Baby gekauft. Es ist wirklich sehr schön gemacht, die Tiere sind kontrastreich abgebildet und auf jeder Seite gibt es einen Farbklecks. Was mir sehr gut gefällt ist, dass man dem Baby zu den Bildern sehr viel erzählen kann (ich habe nämlich ein anderes mit "Gegenständen" gekauft und da tu ich mir etwas schwer dazu etwas zu erzählen). Ich kann dieses Buch empfehlen und werde es auch künftig an werdende Eltern verschenken.Edit: auch mit 8 Monaten liebt mein Sohn dieses Buch noch sehr, ich denke sogar mehr als zu Beginn. Alleine wenn er das Buch nur sieht fängt er vor Freude zu strampeln an. Klare Kaufempfehlung, immer wieder!Was ich noch hinzufügen muss: Wir haben das Buch mittlerweile öfter verschenkt und es kam auch schon mal in schlechtem Zustand an, sodass wir es zurückschicken mussten. Irgendwann bekommt man dann ein Gutes 😉 auch wenn mein Sohn viel damit spielt, sieht man dem Buch das schnell an. Dennoch würde ich es immer wieder kaufen!

I bought my daughter <i> Hello Bugs </i> on a whim and it became one of our favorite books when she was a tiny little loaf, so when I needed books to donate to my local Welcome Baby program, I knew <i> Hello Animals </i< would be a good bet. And it was!The illustrations are simple black-and-white with shiny red, blue and gold accents. The animals range from the familiar (eg dog) to the exotic (eg penguin). The text repeats the pattern "Hello [animal]" with smaller letters cuing the reader to make the noise of the animal. The animals are all engaged in different activities or settings, giving the reader sometime to talk about with the baby. The animals are cute without being saccharine and all have friendly little smiles.What's amazing to me is how I do not get bored of this book or <i> Hello Bugs </i> no matter how many times I read it. A great book to own for yourself, gift or donate to build parent/child connection and early literacy.
