Exactly What I Wanted!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I've known several people to have success with this program. I've tried several times, but I've never made it past a week or two. It explains the program briefly, but if you're new to the program or new to weight lifting, I recommend getting the original Body For Life Book that explains it in more detail. I struggle with motivation and sticking to a program. I have never completed any program. I'm three weeks into this and I feel confident for the first time I will complete these 12 weeks. I like that it not only has a food journal and a workout journal (I could print that), but I like that it has a daily "mindset journal." This really helps me take one day at a time and not get overwhelmed by constantly thinking "12 weeks." I also love the "Daily Lesson" and success story. That helps keeps me motivated daily that just sticking to the program will yield success. I started by carrying it with me and writing down everything I ate as I ate it. I will admit, it's definitely not pocket size so that got a bit cumbersome. But it has so much information, it's worth the size. I started completing my journaling at night before bed, preparing my plan for the next day and since I pack my food for the day, I simply eat what I pack and I stick to the program. I've heard several people say that for the first six weeks you don't see a lot of physical changes. So far I haven't seen a lot of changes, but my strength has improved, my energy is much higher and my sleep is SO much better. Since this program requires a decent amount of discipline, other areas of my life have improved as well. I'm becoming more disciplined overall and that is a surprise but welcome outcome. Overall, if you like journaling, you'll love this book. You can choose how much you use of it. You can take it to the gym with you, but it is is a bit big for that. What works for me is creating a similar chart in Google Sheets, opening that on my phone each workout, recording as I go and then transferring it to my book when I get home. I like looking back through the pages to see how my strength has improved. It's very motivated, well organized, and I can't recommend it enough!

An important component of a successful workout program
This well-organized Success Journal based on sound behavior-change principles has made the difference for me in getting back into weight training and aerobic workouts. I have piles of exercise books and videos, and I used to work out religiously, but I have "been meaning to" get back into working out since a major surgery a year ago. There is something about writing down daily goals and then rating oneself on success each day which is keeping me on track and has me feeling optimistic that I will really stick with it this time. I also like the pages which allow me to write down what I eat each day, and to keep track of exactly what I have done with weights, etc., as it will be great to have a bound copy of information showing my progress. The exercises and diet information are all based on sound information. My only "complaints" about the exercises is that not all of us have access to all the types of machines that are illustrated, and I wish he had included more free weight alternatives for the various muscle groups. I also wish that he had provided some realistic sample plans for those of us, including women, who are not able to start out pushing around the amounts of weight he lists in his sample workouts. The weight training might seem daunting for those who have never trained in this manner before, but his descriptions of the exercises are very thorough and clear. This may seem like a pricey and unnecessary component to the main Body for Life book, but it makes the difference for me. I will probably buy another copy of it after I'm done with the initial twelve weeks and continue using it to keep myself motivated.

Book is great and so is eating less
Great book it will only work if you stick to the plans and simply don’t eat after 7, this book is not for slightly motivated people who go to the gym come home and eat a big ol dinner, for those people first work on eating 2 boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, a regular sandwich for lunch not a big ass hero, then a dinner because you have some people not knowingly eating a breakfast that could be had for dinner like Bacon, eggs , home fries and toast then a few hours later a lunch then a few hours later a dinner and eat this way for years. That’s why people who come out of jail are in great shape they eat 3 small meals all the time. On top of that if you take a 30 min walk from here to there you should loose two pounds a week that’s without even working out. If you don’t have money to eat healthy eat a sandwich for breakfast lunch and dinner chips are better than rice so good luck

Essential BFL Tool!
I started my first Body-for-Life challenge on 1/6 and finished 3/29. This book was very important because I was able to keep track of my meals and workouts while reading the encouraging words of Bill Phillips as well as a successful transformation daily. The daily progress reports are VERY important for your success. The meals help you keep track of what you have ate so far (as well as planning), and you can review your previous workouts to better plan your next workout. Not to mention you can look back at how far you've come! BFL provides these sheets in the original book and their website, but having this all organized in this journal right in front of you with inspirational words from Bill makes it easier than printing out the pages everyday.I read half of the Transformations before I even started! They go into alot more detail than just looking around on the web...you can see how different beginning stats work for different people...and how many 12-week Challenges it may have taken *some* of them to get there.Plus, if you actually read his words, he offers you a little deal if you're unhappy ;)There will ALWAYS be anti-BFL people out there. All you have to do is look for the personal pages on the internet. Everyone knows the secret to losing weight: Exercise & Eating Right. Bill Phillips did not invent anything new, nor does he try to fool you into thinking so. He offers a structured program and mental encouragement towards realistic goals. If you actually read his book, follow his program, and track your hard work (like in this journal), you will look great in 12 weeks. I did, and I'm now in Challenge 2.
