The Deplorable Word Review
The Deplorable Word....what can I say about this completely unique and phenomenal text, aside from the fact that this book, by itself, is more profound and truthful than most of the other occult texts I've read and/or owned? For starters, TDW (The Deplorable Word) is not a typical "occult tome". While it does include a healthy amount of actual, practical Gnosis to be dissected, devoured, and then finally manipulated for personal use by the readers, it is the explanations given to the reader *about*, or, *on the "nature" of* the Abyss (if such a 'thing' could even have a 'nature'...) that truly stand out and grab the reader's attention (and hopefully, since you've picked out this book, your Spirit...). This text is primarily focused on the devotion to and worship of the most ancient of antediluvian monstrosities, The Void Itself. The book is co-authored by the astute Constantine Charagma, author of Ecclesia Mysteria, and the spiritual congregation of the same name, and the disturbingly talented Erica Frevel, who also produced all of the outstanding and extremely powerful paintings/collages and sigils within this tome (as all the artwork in TDW is supposed to accompany the reader with actual ritual/devotional practices, to be activated by said reader). Both authors' experiences and advice flow seamlessly through each other, and the reader can, even in a brief skimming of the text, understand just how austere and devoid of pretentiousness the contents of this book are. The authors report on their own procedures and findings, and the Gnosis granted by the Void It-self. Again, no parlor tricks here. They state explicitly clear, on numerous occasions, just how dangerous something like "devotion unto the Void" can, and potentially will, be for the Abyssal Devotee - to call upon, invoke, and worship something that has no relish for human lives, who's only goal is devourment of existence itself. But, I digress.....as you can see, my own Love for this text is shining through unequivocally.I will finish by saying that although there are numerous "anti-" or "a-"cosmic texts floating around Malkuth, some released by actual practitioners, and some by fraudulent charlatans, with this text falling solidly within the former category. And this text would take the prize, in my opinion. This text exudes a certain, palpable Darkness both within and without; and, from the moment It enters the threshold of the home, It begins to call out to those receptive.Although, whether or not one actually partakes in the austerities within these pages - which could range from savage blood-letting and self-flagellation, to astral trance, and coming withershins all over again to prepare oneself for becoming a living vessel for a true and harmonious Possession by Abyssal Entities.Definitely not for the squeamish, the weak, or those craving petty desires of the flesh.Steel yourself and embrace the Darkness.-JWK

Interesting perspectives, but mostly dramatic filler
I'm not one to say that any book is entirely useless. Indeed, I think there is unique gnosis in this book that is unlikely to be found elsewhere. I especially enjoyed the calling-out of modern practitioners in the opening story. That said, some of the approaches in this book aren't entirely accurate or even needlessly dangerous. For instance, Satan isn't just the adversary to Yahweh, that's a misconception that most genuine Satanists have been trying to dissolve for awhile now and it's definitely one that the mythical figure provided in the book would know better than to fall into. I know that risk is inexorably linked to the Left-Hand Path, and that's precisely why you should be careful with high-risk topics like Da'ath. If you approach it expecting to be consumed and dominated and destroyed, then that's what you're going to receive, but black magickians have found much safer ways of interfacing with the abyss that grant the same boons. The book also tries to argue for slavery of the Self to the Void, with the reasoning being mostly that it will dominate you anyway and as a slave to a higher power it will help you achieve its own ends which give you a sense of purpose. I'm not quite sure why anyone who takes Left-Hand Path philosophy seriously would agree to this line of thinking. The book also tries to convince the reader that possession is irreversible, which it isn't, likely in an attempt to lay seeds of doubt and make any attempt of exorcism nigh-impossible.Without these glaring issues, and cutting some of the pointless rituals at the end of the book that can be found in other tomes with the processes described better, you have what should have been a short treatise on personal gnosis of the Abyss and some philosophy wrapped around it. You also gain a few interesting sigils in the form of elaborate post-modern surrealist art. It's interesting and has some amount of application, but don't expect it to be an extensive tome or grimoire. It's best approached as a valuable unique perspective.

Excellent book about the Abyss
The Deplorable Word by Constantine Charagma and Erica Frevel is a powerful collection of magickal works, both in writing and art. This book is quite unique in that it is the first of its kind to focus solely on the Abyss. The concept of the Abyss can be found in many religions and cultures, but it is so foreign to cosmic life that many ignore or gloss over its existence. Not so here. Not only does this book explore the Abyss, but it revels in it. The Abyss is where everything came from and will someday collapse back into. Each piece of artwork within the book is magickal in its own right and can be used as an altar piece or a starting point for further ritual work. The writing is truly inspired, and my absolute favorite story in the book is “Cobalt and Collyrium.” I feel that this story, if nothing else, can truly show one a glimpse of the immense power and beauty that is the Abyss and why it is a worthy destination after death. Also included in the book are various meditations and magick rituals that have produced powerful results when I have used them. Many of my own prior experiences are also mirrored by the authors of the books, and as any serious occult practitioner knows, it’s easy to question what is happening when it is out of the ordinary, but then you find others experiencing the same things, and that is validating. All in all I have to say that this is a fabulous book, and many an occultist will find great knowledge in its pages.

Must have if you’re up for the darker side of the occult
Great addition to any aspiring occultist. I actually found the book after watching a series of YouTube videos with the artist of the book. She so eloquently described how I’ve felt spiritually and this book continues that conversation. It’s not a manual or some lame ass attempt at spooking repressed Christians and dabbling satanists like most grimoires fail at doing.

Amazing modern grimoire
Erica Frevel leads the reader in the depths of her fascinating universe of sinister Art, devotion and possession from the denizens of the Abyss. The book mixes a novel, some researchs with Art pieces of the author and rituals. All together forming a new kind of grimoire! Artwork and words pulse with the dark insidious currents that flow through them... Only people with strong foundations in Black Arts should read it as it takes its grip in the subconscious of the reader and open a little door to the Abyss. For people of the Blood it's a wonderful add to your library.
