Excellent but not over $20. Region 2.
I have been watching the Marx Brothers since I was old enough to remember. Back in the 1960's when I was living in NYC PBS & a film show called the late show were my source for the Marx brothers. The late show(s) are not to be confused with modern era late night talk shows. The late show was for films & for the 1st film at 12 midnight it was called "The Late Show", the late late show for the second movie and on & on until it was dusk and called the late late late late show (4 films were rare but this did occur. The first show had a montage of apartment houses with clothes lines & antennas. With each new film as the night became morning the lights would go out in the building until it was 5am on weekends, there was a catchy tune as well. This is where a wealth of films in B&W were shown and the Marx Brothers ruled the darkness with laughter and bravery against the pretentiousness of class system, dictatorship & the dreaded perpetrators of war. This Marx Brothers Collection is PAL-region 2 but a multiple region player is now somewhat affordable. There is a region one collection called "The Silver Screen Collection" and there are a few that carry the same name. The difference is that the Silver Screen Collection contains only the 5 Paramount films. I gave it to one of my kids so I can always check but this has a Gothic subtitle font. This collection also contains extra's on the Paramount releases plus 3 additional films-Love Happy, A Girl in Every Port and an MGM film with the 3 Brothers-"Room Service". There are 8 region 2 discs and "Love Happy" which I have seen but never really viewed carefully enough and the film has gotten a bad rap. The Brothers are older in "Love Happy"and "A Girl in Every Port" (R.K.O.) has only Groucho in it but it is a pretty rare film. A film such as "Love Happy" has the 3 Brothers from their MGM days but is a United Artist release. Love Happy has an awesome cameo of Marilyn Monroe which is way over the top (that's good) and Groucho is basically a narrator while Chico and Harpo play their usual parts. Groucho does appear in the film also. There are eight separate films and if you love films a multi Region player can run anywhere from $30.00 and up. I strongly suggest looking into a multi region player. As for this collection, I wouldn't pay more than $20.00 and if your patient you will see that the vendors will drop the price. If you can't wait than there is always the region 1 "Silver Screen Collection" which has the first 5 Paramount films plus a documentary disc (6 discs). If you see either this collection or the Silver Screen Collection for under ten dollars than jump on it, but I wouldn't pay over $20.

Terrific DVD box set.
I've wanted this box set a long time. I couldn't believe it when I saw this one so reasonably priced. I contacted the seller to check it was all ok and he responded almost immediately. He's a real gent. Pleasure to do business with. The DVD's are in excellent condition. Wonderful old classics films. Really enjoyable. I've never laughed so much in ages. Dating back to when Talking pictures were still a novelty. I can only describe the whole package as TOP BANANA. You can't get better than that. 😉

Some classics, some filler
If you like the Marx Brothers then you are going to enjoy the great films in this collection. The sound and filming in the early ones (especially the Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers) are basic and betray how early in the development of cinema technology they were made. Duck Soup remains anarchic and brilliant and what we have left of Horse Feathers (there are missing scenes) is also funny. However, you can file away the later films as rather slow and below the best - I have read that they were only made by the Brothers to clear Chico's gambling debts. If so, they show the lack of care that their earlier films had.

Good watch (if he can be bothered)
Bought as a Christmas present as was assured he loves them. It was never watched. It is sitting on the shelf in its plastic.
