Educational Gold!
Dona Matthews and Joanne Foster have created an indispensable reference for those in the educational and psychological assessment fields. Using both anecdotal cases and in depth research, the authors provide concise workable solutions for teachers, parents, and students and remind us that intelligence (like the brain) is not something that is carved in stone, but can be modified and harnessed with appropriate educational and intelligence strategies. The book has important ramifications for teaching in general and for the way we conceptualize how students learn. It also provides valuable tools for parents who are looking to find appropriate schools for their children or to negotiate with teachers and school administrators when ascertaining which resources their child needs. As a tutor, I know that I will be utilizing many insights from the book! As educators, Dona and Joanne remind us to continually look for different ways to motivate learners and that intelligence will come to the fore with the correct cues, guidance, enthusiasm, and supports. Congratulations, a wonderful reference!

Once you've finished the baby books, blogs and posts...............this is a must read for all involved parents
"Beyond Intelligence" should be at the top of your reading list. There are many books out there that will help you learn how to teach your children manners, ABC's etc.But this book is different. It's a guidebook for us - the parents - on how to correctly navigate today's world of parenting. The goal isn't to have the "best" child - the goal is to raise a happy, resilient, confident child - secure in his family - secure in the knowledge that he will be ready to soar and tackle the world. The quizzes and checklists throughout the book are especially helpful - as they give a framework for each chapter, and will be helpful when I go back and review them a year from now, to ensure our family is on track.

Read this book
This book is both kind and practical. It empowers parents seeking to raise their children to be mindful, inquisitive, productive adults. Rather than focusing on intelligence in a purely academic sense, the authors' definition of the term is wholistic, taking into account the individuality of each child. Each chapter is filled with helpful suggestions and solutions which don't involve huge investments of money, but rather, investments of mind and soul. Well worth the read. This book is a huge encouragement to anyone actively involved in raising and educating children.

Ones like, what is the best type of school for ...
BEYOND INTELLIGENCE is a must-have book for parents. So many important educational and child-development questions are answered here. Ones like, what is the best type of school for my child and how do I foster a love of learning?I believe parents will value Matthews and Foster’s practical approach to growing the natural intelligences we all have.

Helping our children cope with technology and more
Thanks Dona Matthews and Joanne Foster for a great exploration of how parents and teachers can nurture both intelligence and creativity in our young people. There is so much to love about this book. Worth reading and re-reading many times! Here is one of my favourite quotes: "During the years from age five through eleven, ... many of the most important intelligence-building skills are not academic or intellectual. The habits of mind acquired during childhood - persistence, patience, respect, integrity, imagination, responsibility, and more - underlie an adult's willingness to do the hard work over time that can result in high-level intelligence and achievement...". We can't do the work for them, but we can be there, keep learning ourselves and support them on their journey.
