A comedy about a fundamentalist mother who is determined to stop her gay son's wedding. But her plans go awry when she accidentally befriends his fiancé and finds herself giving relationship advice. Will mom wind up being the one who destroys their marriage? Or the one who saves it? "A worthy successor to You Should Meet My Son!, this sequel is a sweet and laugh-out-loud watch that will hit the mark with its intended audience... What You Should Meet My Son 2! does so well is to underpin the film with a serious message about acceptance (both from self and of others) while making you laugh your socks off with a colourful cast of characters." -- Entertainment Focus

cute
This was so cute. I was taken back by the change of the actors, but it was still very well done. I like the happy ending, I have had enough of the twists and the sad. Please watch this and just enjoy it. I laughed all the way through it. I have to admit that I did tear up at the end, both good and sad tears. I am still waiting to find my love. I have to have faith that my mom will send mine, even if she is my guardian angel. ( RIP).

Love prevails through hate
Struggling Christian mothers that don't know the difference between the Old and New testament make horrible choices for their gay sons. Throwing them away like trash, subjecting them to street life, and yet they turn out to be loving caring people. Watch this movie for a surprise ending!

Great Sequel
Tyler Richmeier (Brian) and Emory Duncan (Chase) at the end of the film ask viewers to write reviews so that they can make more indie films. Five stars. I hope that they make a sequel so that we can find out if their marriage works. The film is profound talking about gay marriage when the mother (Ryann Robbins) who is trying to break up the engagement tells Brian that “Real Marriage” is about the “for worse” part of marriage vows. For a marriage to survive “for worse” takes love, perseverance, and character. “For better” is easy. Then near the end, Chantel, the street walker (Donzell Lewis) asks the mother how does she not know that Chantel was inspired by God to say that God loves gays.I strongly recommend the movie. It’s funny and moving. The characters are well casted and have chemistry. Nerisssa Tedesco, as Rose, is a delight. This sequel has the same characters as the original, but new actors and new characters as well. In many ways it is better than the first version of the film. And of course, there are sexy scenes with the go-go boys and Chase in his underwear.

Should keep the people from the 1st movie
As a sequel to "You Should Meet My Son"... I wasn't impressed. I wish that they would just leave well enough alone! The first movie was a gem! The main appeal of a sequel is to get more from the characters we already know and love. That didn't happen because they have a 100% actor turnover. The only similarity to the characters from the first movie was their names. It was an ok movie I hope that they have a sequel with a better theme.

My Son grew up
This movie gets off to a shaky start. A bunch of stereotypes and very broad humor. But, if you give it time, you see it maturing before your very eyes over the course of the movie. It borders on asking profound questions about relationships, and gay relationships in particular. Why do some gay couples endure? Are gay relationships basically different from heterosexual relationships? Can gay guys and straight guys really love each other? In the credits at the end of the movie, the two stars ask the viewer to rate the movie and let Amazon know if the viewer thinks he would like to see more features from them. Actually, I would. At the end, My Son 2 turns serious and finally very sweet. The leads discuss where their relationship will go from here. I've always felt a little shortchanged when a movie ends and the leads go riding off into the sunset. You just get to like them and then they're gone. (But better than the "Kill the Gays" tack taken by too many previous gay movies.) All of which is to say, I'd like to see how these lovers handle the future living together. Gays do have relationships beyond courtship.

This was a up and down, and back up again roller-coaster of a movie...
3/27/2020: First off, I just adore cheap sentiment. OK, I've wanted to use that line for some time now. BUT, this is an indi film, so you give a bit here and there for the acting, or story line. Artistic license I think it's called. All the principal characters did well with what the writers provided them. The two young guys, Ryann Robbins, Emory Duncan, were good with their characters, and nice to look at. Joanne McGee as Mae, Carol Goans as Rose, were very good as well. My Favorite Maniac was the actress who played Irene, Chase's estranged mother. Could not find her real name, not even in IMDB. It gave actual names and the character they played, but no Irene shows up at all. Strange. She held that crazy character perfectly. All and all, I seriously enjoyed this film. COULD NOT find the first adaptation of this film, the first You Should Meet My Son. Not on Amazon, NetFlix, not on YouTube, Google, etc. YouTube has clips of the first film, but nothing else to be found.

Be Prepared for Casting Changes
If you enjoyed the original, consider this one. I do not regret buying it, but be prepared for major changes the recasting for the sequel caused.Mae and Rose were the biggest obstacles. The two actors neither look like nor act like the actors in the original. I missed the self-confident Mae and the more reserved Rose. Fantasia also looks radically different, but the character is closer to the original. Once you've processed those changes, you can enjoy the movie. The new Brian and Chase actors were good choices; since this story revolves mostly around them it helped. The overall acting is stronger than in the first too. It's a cute movie with a happy, albeit predictable, ending.

Terrific Gay Comedy
Like the 2010 original, this 2018 sequel is a lot of fun. I'm glad the producer decided to do another movie, even though it mostly doesn't use the same cast as before. But it is well-written, directed and acted, and there's plenty of muscle hunks as before. It's not necessary to see the earlier version to understand anything that happens in this one, but you really owe it yourself to enjoy both. Very romantic and highly recommended!

Same characters, different actors
Be warned: this sequel has many of the same characters as the first, but they're played by different actors. I found this quite distracting on first viewing. And the story was less than gripping. I may appreciate it more on a second viewing, but I haven't popped it back into the DVD player again yet.
