8-1/2 inch Polished Natural Stone Mortar and Pestle by Casa Maria

This is very heavy and I don't say that often. Most older people would not want to be moving this around. I have had so many compliments on it. It really does look good on the counter and it is very functional. You will never break this one. it's solid!

This mortar and pestle is beautiful! It is pretty heavy so I am very careful with it, not because I am afraid of breaking it if it is dropped but because I am afraid that it would ruin the floor! It works very well and the pestle is comfortable to use. It is also easy to clean! This is a great gift!

Too big and heavy; scratches counter surfaces

This is really nice and looks cool on my shelf, but it is huge and in retrospect I wish I would have gone with one a little smaller for more everyday use.

This is a good quality mortar & pestle, it works just fine but is VERY heavy so I don't use it as much as I thought I would. If I had more room on the countertop, I'm sure it would get more use. However, I have to say it works very well.

I had one break a couple weeks ago so I bought this one to replace it. No worries that this one will break! It's made well and quite heavy. It does the job on the bitters that I've been working with. Handle may be short for someone with big hands but for my small hands it works perfectly.

Wow! This could be a weapon! Something missing from the description on Amazon was the actual size. The inside diameter is 7", the outside is 8 1/2". The height of both mortar and pestle is 4 1/2". To season this you are supposed to grind rice or salt in it until it comes out as white as when you put it in the bowl. I had both my hubby (he's quite big and strong) and myself do both. Honestly, it never shed anything into the rice or the salt. Very nice item.

I have sold mine a few times after finding this excellent mortar and pestle set. The size and weight is perfect. Too many other sets are too small or too smooth a surface for working herbs and leaves.The weight helps keep it easy to work without shifting. The simple bowl bottom without cut legs, is far less prone to breaking "legs" and making the bowl subsequently awkward to use with only two of three or four legs left. This one can have many chips out of the base and never effect stability. PS - No chips have occurred despite using if over many months in a number of homes.
