GE 87688 HDMI and Coax Cable Wall Plate

Bought two. One fits perfect. The other is a problem since you need to attach the cable at 90 degrees but size of my hdmi plug makes this impossible given the direction that the wire enters the box. The first one, which is on the other end of the cable, is fine because the hdmi cable enters that box from different direction. The listing DID show a photo of the item in package, but I did not realize the angle was only 90 degrees. I will keep it and likely use it in a later installation. But for the current installation, I had to look for a similar product that allowed for a "straight in" connection. My own mistake, but if ordering one, be sure this configuration will fit your application. But, great price for the product.

Nice product BUT "Does NOT fit single gang BOX" (depending on who you ask), DOES fit a single gang LV BRACKET though- Thank you Amazon for adding the "Fits standard wall plate mounts - Does not fit single gang box"- As others have noted, the package incorrectly states "Fits standard single gang box/wall mount", it DOES fit the "single gang LV WALL mount" but it doesn't reasonably fit what is typically called "single gang BOX" (your typical 120V light switch box or outlet).- This is a low voltage item which typically just use just a bracket w/ plate mounting holes (a hollow frame) vs. a high voltage enclosed gang box.Unfortunately, the industry does not seem to adhere to a naming standard, you will find the low voltage "brackets" listed as both "boxes" and "brackets" (search "Single Gang Low Voltage Box", and "...Bracket").

This item was perfect for our application. It allowed us to continue to have the existing co-axial cable available and attach the new HDMI cable in the same box. It was also much better having the HDMI connect into the top so that there was no bending of the cable as would have been required if it connected into the back of the unit. There are complaints about the unit not fitting into an existing box because of the depth of the HDMI connection. This is probably not the type of installation where this would be used. Our existing co-axial cable wall plate was attached to a metal receptacle that surrounded the hole in the dry wall, not a box. This appears to be the type of mount where this would be used and it is perfect for that.

Build quality seems nice -- tested HDMI only so far. Has all the bolts I needed to install.Regarding the backside issue: I thought I had open air behind my existing coax terminal, but in fact I had a steel box, and my HDMI cable had a very thick end, so I ran into the issue many reviews reported of being unable to install. I liked the build quality of GE, though, so instead of buying a different wall plate, I bought a 90 degree (*not* 270 degree) HDMI connector, specifically http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DDULUIA/, and now it installs fine and works great. Back to clean cabling!

Nice cable & HDMI plate. Direct TV had to change out the cable cylinder (Gold piece) to make it work for my tv but that wasn't a real problem. This won't fit in a regular single gang electrical box, if you plan on using one be sure and cut the back off of it before you install it and all will work fine. I use standard remodel (old work) boxes and cut the back off because the low level boxes cost 5 times as much.

We had our kitchen backsplash torn out and I thought it would be a great chance to go ahead and prewire for putting a under cabinet TV in the kitchen down the road. This worked perfectly for that. I ran a HDMI and Coax cable from this outlet down to the basement. In the future, I will tie it in with our living room cable box, using and HDMI splitter/Amplifier, so that we can watch the same show in the kitchen as in the living room without having to pay for another cable box or trying to find a place to put a cable box in our kitchen.

Works well for my needs - I bought two of these so I could share an HDMI connection between rooms. The only hassle I had was that the HDMI connection on the back/inside of this was pointed down, which made it much more difficult to get it in the wall properly...but after some sweat and frustration, I got it to work.

As other reviewers have pointed out the HDMI connection is either pointed up or down, and in the middle about 2 1/2 inches inside the box. So you need to take the box and the plate, find that middle point and drill a 1 inch opening to support the HDMI cable's exit/entry. Next time I'll buy the short cable HDMI version.

I had to change the rating from 5 to 1 star .. after setting up my system I was having issue with clarity and cutting in and out... It came back to these units... all do the same from the HDMI port. How do I know its the unit... If I by pass it and hook direct it works fine...I ordered 5 and all 5 have the same issue
