Nefertiti Resurrected [DVD]

The Beautiful One Has Come
How refreshing it is to see from from this documentary-Nefertiti Resurrected, ancient Egyptians portrayed as they actually looked, more like black Africans.By using Nefertiti's mummy and its skeletal structure to reconstruct her face, Dr. Joann Fletcher, the distinguished English Egyptologist has given us a replica according to the writer Robin Walker, that bears a likeness to the striking Somalian supermodel,Iman. Most mainstream documentaries on Egypt of antiquity depict Egyptians as looking European. I find it sacrilegious to remove ancient Egypt from its African origins, as if it sailed off somewhere in the Mediterranean or so-called Middle East. Ancient Egypt or KMT-Kemet as the indigenous people referred to their land, is to Africa what ancient Greece is to Europe, a classical civilization. The southern origin of the ancient Egyptians is based on an historical message found in the highly respected "Papyrus of Hunefer"{early 19th dynasty, about 1280 BC from Waset or what the Greeks called Thebes] from the Book of the Dead or more appropriately, the Book of the Coming Forth by Day into Night. It states: "We came from the beginning of the Nile where the God Hapi dwells, at the foothills of the "Mountain of the Moon"-MT. Kilimanjaro or Ruwenzori on the Uganda-Zaire border. Coincidentally, this is the same location where some of the worlds oldest human fossils are found. After viewing this enlightening documentary, the words of the English Egyptologist, Gerald Massey are summoned: "Egypt brought the African genius to its highest and finest expression and then proceeded to instruct the world in Africa's wisdom. Inner Africa was the mother, the great Nile the father, and Egypt or Khem, the brilliant son and fulfiller"!

Brings Ancient Egypt Alive in Modern Times
This DVD does a beautiful job of bringing modern forensic science and snipets of ancient Egyptian history together in a very captivating story without shoving biased conclusions down your throat. Learned many things about Nefertiti and the histoy of ancient Egypt that I had not known before - for example that she was King Tut's stepmother. The film also quenched my thirst for the forensic evidence of current day (2006) in evaluating mummified remains. First viewed most of this film while substituting in an 8th grade social studies class. Held their attention and made me want to buy the film to find out the ending and final theories ascertained. Very good if you are a fan of either forensic science, mummies, or the history of ancient Egypt, or in finding perhaps the identity of the first female Egyptian pharoah.

Marvelous documentary!
This beautifully-narrated documentary follows Egyptologist Joann Fletcher as she tracks down the data that suggests one of the three mummies in the Valley of the Kings is the beauty, Nefertiti, who became a Pharaoh and renounced the new religion of her husband to save Egypt from chaos. Great photography and very thorough in its coverage.

Egyptology Buffs Beware!
This movie is very insightful, you find yourself learning a lot about the queen, the era and what is current in Egyptology. The movie was very interesting, not at all like many documentaries. My students even really enjoyed it, what more could a teacher want!?!
