StilGut® Couverture, Genuine Leather Case for Apple iPad Air with Smart-Cover Function, Navy Blue

I bought this case in blue for my iPad Air, version 1. The case is nice material but two concerns. First off, the case is heavy. The magnetic flap adds significant weight to the case. It's not heavy enough to where I'd return the case, but don't be surprised when you get it. The second concern is the frame that holds the iPad. It doesn't hold it as securely as I would like. There's no edge on the left side of the iPad where the flap is and is held by two small edges on the corner. There would be a long term concern on how well this will hold up over time. It seems to hold it okay now, but I would imagine this will deteriorate over time. Plus, the case isn't that protective in terms of drops. I think the iPad would crack if dropped in this case.

The case is very sturdy and heavier than I expected. The navy is quite dark, almost black. I used to have an iPad 4 with the Apple Smart Case. One of my chief complaints with the Smart Case was that when I propped the iPad up using the the triangle fold, it placed the screen at an angle where it tended to catch the glare of overhead lights. What I like about the StilGut is that the angle is greater and that reduces the glare significantly. It also holds the iPad in place better in either propped up position.

I recently bought an iPad Air and needed a new case. I was looking for something that added minimal weight and bulk but also did not look cheap or poorly constructed. After reading a number of reviews and looking at dozens of cases I settled on a company that I had not heard of before, Stilgut. I had decided that I wanted something similar to the Apple Smart Case, which I think looks cheap (but isn't) and from what I have heard from others does not hold well.This case appears to have high quality leather and excellent construction. The iPad fits snugly in the base and all of the buttons are easily accessible. The four corners are protected but don't think of this case as being designed for maximum protection from drops and etc. Overall, this was the ideal balance for me in terms of light weight, minimal bulk and a high quality leather product. I had one minor quibble with this case and that is there was a minor flaw in the application of the leather to the back of the case resulting in a small crease running up and down the back of the case. It was not bad enough to cause me to go through the hassle of returning it but since this is a rather expensive case, but you would expect that this should not get through their quality control checks.

I bought this case thinking it would last the lifetime of my iPad, I was wrong. Leather case started peeling at the corners after about one year, and the case eventually cracked at the corner. Definitely not worth the high price tag

This is the third case I've ordered and the final one, thank goodness. I tried the Piel Frama ultra expensive leather case in blue cinema from Europe and found it to be too cumbersome (e.g. heavy and too much leather and I didn't like the way it stood) and it covered the front frame of the iPad Air too much. Mostly the color was not as advertised - I ordered the bright blue and it was navy with black interior - very masculine looking. Sent it back and bravo to Amazon for paying return shipping for me when Smartcases refused.Then I ordered a cheap ultra slim Fintie case with high hopes based on reviews. The turquoisey color was great but there is no way the cover laid flat once you used it as a stand. Pretty useless.Now, this Stilgut case is awesome in every category. They have 3 colors that protect all sides (Navy, red, and purple) and 3 more that don't, so watch out if it makes a difference to you as one reviewer pointed out. This fits perfectly, is high quality fragrant leather and NOT cumbersome at all! The stand in two positions is perfect for any use and the cover sits flat every time. It's thin yet protective and I couldn't be happier. This is the ONLY choice as far as I'm concerned.

Bought this for my wife's iPad Air and she could not be happier. The SilGut case is sturdy, genuine leather. The iPad Air snaps into a plastic frame that is attached to the leather case leaving the entire face of the iPad open to view. The case has openings in the right places for all buttons, camera lens, speakers and connectors. The auto-off feature of the iPad works flawlessly with the SilGut case. The case works just like the Apple branded iPad cases in how it folds to allow the iPad to be placed in a standing, horizontal position. The SilGut case is expensive, but high quality...in this case you get what you pay-for, a solid, good looking, functional iPad Air case.

Fine, soft leather that fits the ipad very well. Make sure you get one of the 3 colors that encloses the ipad on all sides for better fit. I love the navy blue color - its dark but easily distinguishable from everyone else's boring black.

This is what you're looking for. Slim, classic, functional, and durable. I can't find a flaw to complain about. I have it in blue, and it is a dark masculine color, not purple at all.

Aside from the slightly off putting name, you do get what you pay for. What a cliche, but true. I tried three other covers in the £9 - £20 range, but, while reasonable products, they didn't fit or hold or, if they did, holes did not align with the iPad. This product, yes more expensive, does just what you hoped for: firm fit, apertures in the right places ... and leather.
