Cours de Langue et de Civilisation Françaises (Vol. 1)

For a course of study that had been created in the 1960s, this is a a course that is not obsolete at all. There is no wonder that this book had more than 60 editions.Of course, this is an old and an intensely used book, and, unfortunately, some of the previous users were not exceedingly cautious about the book's condition and the text's legibility.But, the essence of the book is still exceptional.

The Mauger series 1-4, is a great way to teach French from beginner level to advanced. This is an old textbook, but it covers the language in easily understood increments for the students. Some of the vocabulary is not current, but other than that it builds the language blocks necessary to learn a language. It is one of the best textbooks I have seen; quite a bit better than the newer more modern language textbooks used in schools which tend to put the teacher in a box and be disjointed, trendy, and lacking foundational skills. It is not colorful, but allows great creativity on the part of the teacher.

This was my first French book, many years ago, in the 7th grade! I had a great teacher and went on to become a French teacher myself. This book is old-fashioned but in a charming kind of way. It's also ALL in French, as it was used at places like the Alliance Française where there were students of all nationalities. I could use this book to tutor French, as it covers all the major grammar, vocabulary and even French culture but I would use supplementary materials. I love this book, for sentimental reasons I guess as well as because it's a good, basic French text.

I have a great tutor and we are going through this book together and it is wonderful. I have done a few lessons on my own as well. I don't believe this is for the absolute beginner who doesn't have a tutor or someone who can go through it with them. However as a text used in conjuction with a teacher I can't recommend it enough.

I really like this book and I have been looking for it for a while. I had this book in the secondary school. It is a self learning book which suit me because I wanted to review my skills.

Once again, Professor Mauger delivers. In my personal opinion, it is a kind of book that never gets old. Of course, times change and for those who want to learn French, I will recommend it as a good supplement.

I love it but American students do not like it because there is no English help beside the French. I used it for years with Spanish speaking students and they had no problem so, it is only a problem for English speaking students
