Reading music
If you can read music and know tuning up then all information for the gugin can be found on ytube but sheet music cannotIt's a bit long and drawn out personally30 pages on the historyThen 30 pages on Chinese characters as though you will pick up and learnNoTell me how to tune upStartHow to position fingersDo I pluckDo I holdDo I use harmonicsIf you've played guitar..it's very very similar with notation..sliding..timing..4/4 3/4etc but the Chinese have over complicated the hand plucking etc making a simple note pluck into a novelPersonallyGet for the scores but apart from hitting bottom strings with your thumb find your own way..She'sNot a good teacher the auther on ytube..There's a woman who does a step by step guide to playing and is very very goodEspecially when y6find out after a rendition that she has only been playing for 6months👍👍ButAs for this autherIf you did stick to her theory and learnt page by pageYou will be a very old person by the time you've even learnt to tune up..worth the buy for the music scores but combine with ytube especially the water theme which is easy but sounds so impressive

Best book you can get to self learn Guqin
I hope the author read this,Thank you so much for writing this book. Although I'm Chinese, I wasn't taught to read Chinese. Yet, as I grew up I'd like to embrace my culture. This book has made everything possible. I was able to play a whole song within 2 days to reading and practicing it.You're amazing for catering for non Chinese reader (or Chinese reader who doesn't know to read Chinese)

Excellent book
This is an excellent book. I have found it so useful. When I bought my Guqin the book with it was all in Mandarin, I know a bit but not enough to follow it. So I bought this book which has been amazing, it’s easy to follow in English with Chinese characters.

Very detailed and informative
It's a very informative book, very good for beginners. It explains everything necessary in detail and has spaces for your own notes and interpretations. I wasn't exactly sure what contents the book had when I bought it, but I'm more than happy with the purchase. I was especially glad when I discovered the repertoire pieces section at the end, as well as the Jianzipu (減ĺ—čś) notation explanations (which is what I was most interested in).
