My 8-year-old used a birthday giftcard on this. It was a great deal with everything needed inside. He loved having the informational booklet to decide which animal and type of bones. Having 3 small pellets makes for multiple sessions of fun! Budding scientist approved!

I remember dissecting owl pellets when I was in fifth grade in science. It’s one of my favorite school memories. I wanted my children to have that experience too and Voila, I find this !This comes with 4 owl pellets which we spent 3 hours dissecting. An 8 year old and 6 year old, entertained, for 3 hours ?! Eureeka!We had a blast with this project. The booklet it comes with is a great guide, offering many answers to questions my 40 year old self long ago forgot the answers to. There is a portion in the book that recommends soaking some of the bones in vinegar and some of them in soda (coke, pop for us Midwesterners). The point of this is to watch the bones go from delicate, nearly brittle to almost rubber like. We did this for the week recommended, the soda molded a bit so we didn’t soak the bones as long as we did in the vinegar but it was pretty cool.Not only does this kit help teach about Owls and their digestive systems but oddly, it is also a bit of a “death positive” learning experience. As a funeral director, I appreciate finding ways (age appropriately)to teach my children about death, whether it be animals or humans. I HIGHLY recommend this. 😊

The Bones kit was a lot of fun. My kids just loved it. I have purchased cheaper science kits in the past and have been disappointed. Not only does this kit give kids hands-on experience in touching real bones but also relates it to our everyday lives and careers in the field of science. I also liked how illustrated the guide was and being in color made it so much more engaging. My kids are younger than the recommended age of 8 and were able to still do the experiments. I just needed to help guide them a little bit more on what to do.

This was lots of fun! It was exciting not knowing what you would find.

This was a great kit! I bought it for my 5 year old and she obviously needed a lot of help, but it was very doable with the extra help. The book that came with it was really cool.

If you've ever worked with owl pellets you know it can be hit or miss with what you end up with (ie. you will not always get full skeletons of animals, sometimes only some identifiable parts). I love the science and mystery of it all! This is a complete kit to explore owl pellets and inform you first hand of the circle of life-food webs, prey vs predators, digestion, etc... Good value for all, but a great value if you end up with cool bones and you can attempt to piece together their story and appearance. If you are squeamish you can always use gloves to handle the pellets and discoveries.

I ordered these during homeschool for my kids. I have ordered other owl pellet kits before, and I honestly preferred those better — they had more pellets and more information about the pellets. This kit had 3 pellets with it. One was big, one medium, and one was so small there was really nothing in it. I feel like you’re paying for the fancy box it comes in.
